Hôtel Burgess

I wanted to love this hotel but, was disappointed. We checked in and the front desk was super nice. Went upstairs to settle in and checked the mattress. As we do all places we stay. They said they don’t do refunds but would place us in another room….just checked out and went elsewhere. Cool historic vibe. Minus the biohazard bed.

I really like this Hotel when I’m in town visiting family. It’s really beautiful and feels like sleeping in my own bed at home. It’s convenient to all downtown shops and restaurants.

We were traveling for four weeks in different regions of the USA. On this particular day, we were heading towards Sequoia National Park and Kings Canyon National Park and, as night was falling, were looking for a room. We drove to this town. According to the reviews, the hotel was supposed to be good. It was rated three stars. I just wonder why. Our first impression of the hotel was good. The lady at reception was very friendly and gave us a room. But the room itself was truly awful. Not to mention the dirt and grime. There were holes in the towels. The shower was filthy. The toilet wouldn't flush. After we complained, the lid was completely gone, and the water ran constantly. The windows hadn't been cleaned in months, and the air conditioner was filthy. Thankfully, we didn't have any bed bugs. I never want to stay in a room like that again.

I do not recommend this place. It was horrible. I'm not used to writing reviews, but this time it's necessary. If you're traveling with family or friends, don't go to this hotel, especially if you have children. When we entered the rooms, they were filthy. We wanted to cancel, but we didn't have any other options nearby. The beds were dirty and stained. The pillows were dirty. The furniture was dirty. I even found a bird feather. When I went to bathe my children, there was no hot water, so I went to ask, and the woman who helped us seemed quite drunk. She later said they fixed it, but when I was bathing my children, the water kept switching between hot and cold. On top of that, the bathtub was filthy. I at least remembered to bring shampoo because they gave us two small bottles of used shampoo and conditioner. The towels were stained and torn. The sink kept clogging. Everything was dirty and old. I understand it's a historic building, but at least they should clean it and replace the broken items. And we paid $125 for the night. It wasn't worth it. And it says it's a three-star hotel; the day before last we stayed in a two-star hotel, but it was very clean and much better, and we paid $85 for the night. But this Burgees Hotel wasn't worth it; it was awful.

I liked the Hotel Burgess very much. I read the reviews and almost did not choose to stay here... Yet it didn't seem like it would be very noisy in a small town. I loved the historic hotel. The rooms are small because that is how they were designed back when it was built. It has been maintained to show it's history. My mom was clean and cozy. I was awakened once during the night by a hot rod going down the street. If you want a large room that is very up to date this hotel is not for you. Find a Hilton somewhere else. If you enjoy the eclectic and historical, this place is for you.

Beautiful place..

Old city center hotel that has been kept up for appearances but not for hotel comfort. Old bathroom fixtures and all rooms on 2nd floor. Has microwave and fridge in room. Only one luggage rack available per room. Shower old and slick with no grab bar. Sheets nice and soft and comforter warm. Rooms spartan.
