Last verified: October 2026. Blackpool still has more gay-run beds than any British resort outside Brighton, and almost all of them are packed into a few terraced streets behind North Pier. As of late 2026 there are three houses that admit men only: the Trades on Lord Street, the Prince Albert on Yates Street and Welhorny's, a naturist members' guesthouse on Banks Street. Chaps on Cocker Street has long called itself men-only, but its current website doesn't say so. Around them sit roughly ten gay-owned or gay-run guesthouses, two bars with rooms upstairs and a handful of mainstream B&Bs that are openly welcoming. The Northern Star on Lord Street closed in early 2024 when it surrendered its licence. Lee & Chris's Belvedere on Dickson Road was put up for sale in June 2026. Blackpool has no gay resort hotel, no pool and nothing a booking site would call luxury in the gay quarter. You get small rooms, a residents' bar and a cooked breakfast, all a few minutes from Funny Girls. This guide covers who is genuinely what, how far each place is from the bars on foot, the rules that catch people out, Pride and the other weekends that fill the town, and getting back to bed at 3 am.
Pick by trip style
| Stay style | Hotels | Walk to Queen Street / Dickson Road | Walk to Acqua Sauna (Springfield Road) | Who it suits and the watch-out |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Men-only | Trades Hotel, The Prince Albert Hotel, Welhorny's (naturist, members) | Trades 4–6 min; Prince Albert 6–8 min; Welhorny's 3–5 min | 4–6 min; 5–7 min; 3–5 min | Men who want the hotel itself to be part of the night. The Trades is loud and has mixed reviews on cleanliness. The Prince Albert is quieter and stairs-only. |
| Gay-owned on the strip | The Molly House, Pride Lodge, Lee & Chris's Belvedere | 3–5 min; 1–3 min; 5–7 min | 3–5 min; 4–6 min; 4–6 min | Couples and groups of friends who want a gay host and a residents' bar without the adult side. The Belvedere is for sale, so check who will be running it when you stay. |
| Lord Street B&Bs | DeLovely Hotel, Q Accommodation, The Dragonfly | 4–6 min; 2–4 min; 4–6 min | 4–6 min each | Mixed groups, women and first-timers. All are adults-only or adult-leaning but not men-only. Lord Street is noisy on Pride weekend. |
| The quieter back streets | Chaps Hotel, Phoenix Guest House, Lawrence House Hotel | 5–7 min each | 4–6 min; 4–6 min; 2–4 min | People who want to sleep. Cocker Street and General Street are residential terraces. Phoenix reviews are patchier than its neighbours'. |
| Rooms above the bar | Mardi Gras, Peek A Booze | You are on it | 4–5 min | Budget weekends where you never plan to be in your room before 2 am. Expect noise from the bar below. |
| Big seafront hotels | Ibis Styles opposite North Pier, Hilton Blackpool on the North Promenade (not in our listings) | Ibis: under 8 min; Hilton: about 15 min to North Pier, or take the tram | Ibis about 5–8 min; Hilton 15–20 min | Anyone who wants a lift, 24-hour reception, sea views or a chain booking with points. They're mainstream, so expect hen parties in the lift. |
| Out of the zone | Ferny House Bar (Promenade, south of the Tower) | 28–32 min | 28–32 min | Only if the village is full. You will be taking the tram or a cab both ways. |
Where to sleep, in real minutes
The gay quarter is a block of about 400 m by 300 m, and the Pride organisers now call it the Rainbow Quarter. Talbot Road is the southern edge: Garlands is at 69–71 and Blackpool North station sits at the top. Queen Street has the Flying Handbag at 44 and Kaos at 38–42. Kaos reopened under new owners on 11 July 2026 after a spring refit. Dickson Road runs north from Funny Girls at number 5, the old 1939 Odeon, past Man Bar at 25 to Peek A Booze at 72–74. Lord Street runs parallel one block inland and holds Mardi Gras and most of the B&Bs. The side streets that link them are Banks Street, Cocker Street, General Street, Springfield Road and Yates Street. If your bed is inside that grid, nowhere is more than 8 minutes away. Blackpool is flat, so the minutes below are real minutes, slowed down only by wind off the sea. Both are measured from our listings to the nearest gay venue and to the middle of the scene.
The two places outside the grid that you may want are W3 sauna at 1–3 Charles Street, 17–21 minutes east of the village (take a cab back late at night), and the Tower and Promenade, about 12–14 minutes south.

Queen Street, High Street and the bottom of Dickson Road
This is the noisiest and most convenient corner. Pride Lodge at 12 High Street is directly opposite Blackpool North station, about 1 minute from Kaos and 1–3 minutes from the Flying Handbag. It is adults-only and gay-run, and gay listings describe it as almost exclusively gay male. It has a small private garden with a hot tub, which you can also book for private use. It has 4.9 on Google from about 75 reviews. If you're arriving by train with a bag and a Friday-night plan, nothing is closer.
Q Accommodation at 27 Lord Street, the renamed Seacroft, is 1 minute from Mardi Gras and 1–2 minutes from Funny Girls. Eddie and Michael run it as adults-only and gay-friendly rather than men-only. Rooms are small, as you'd expect in a seaside terrace, and reviewers keep mentioning how clean it is.
The Molly House at 47–49 Dickson Road (formerly Windsor House) is 1 minute from Man Bar and 1–2 minutes from Funny Girls. It has 14 rooms, all en suite, a licensed bar and lounge, and a full English included in the rate. Its own site calls it gay-owned and gay-friendly. Front rooms face Dickson Road, which empties out after about 3 am at weekends, but ask for the back if you sleep lightly.
Welhorny's at 33–37 Banks Street is in the old Graydon Hotel and opened in 2023 with a 24-hour alcohol licence. It is a men-only private members' naturist guesthouse with a members' bar. See the men-only section below before you book it for the location alone.
Lord Street, north of Banks Street
Lord Street is the B&B row. It hosted the Pride street party in June 2026, which tells you how it sounds that weekend. Trades Hotel at 51–55 Lord Street is 1 minute from Mardi Gras and 4–6 minutes from the Queen Street bars. Rooms over the bar get the music. One reviewer's advice was to take a top-floor room, and that still applies.
The Dragonfly at 75 and DeLovely Hotel at 82 face each other near the northern end, 4–6 minutes from Queen Street. DeLovely belongs to Mark and Charlie, who moved over from Liverpool. Each room has its own theme, there's a small residents' bar, and the cooked breakfast gets as much praise as the hosts. The Dragonfly is a mainstream B&B with gay-friendly owners and its own bar. It works well for mixed groups or a straight friend who's along for the cabaret. At 3 am this end of Lord Street is quiet and well lit, and people walk it in pairs and groups without a second thought.
Above Mardi Gras at 41–43 Lord Street there are rooms over a gay-run local pub. It's cheap and cheerful, and you won't hear yourself think until closing.

Upper Dickson Road, Cocker Street, General Street and Yates Street
This is the northern and western fringe, the closest the quarter gets to residential. Lee & Chris's Belvedere at 77 Dickson Road is almost next door to Peek A Booze and 5–7 minutes from Queen Street. It's adults-only and all rooms are en suite. The bar opens at weekends only and breakfast is locally sourced. The owners, Lee and Chris Taylor-Hone, announced in June 2026 that they plan to sell after five and a half years. It was still taking bookings when we checked, but confirm who will be running it if your stay is in 2027.
On Cocker Street, Chaps Hotel (9–11) and Phoenix Guest House (12) face each other, 5–7 minutes from Queen Street and 4–6 minutes from Acqua. Chaps has about 25 rooms and is the largest of the traditional gay guesthouses. Reviews from summer and October 2026 mention clean single rooms with breakfast included. Phoenix has 10 rooms, 8 of them en suite, and rates 4.2 on Google, a notch below the street. Read the last few months of reviews before booking.
Lawrence House Hotel on General Street is 2–4 minutes from Acqua and 5–7 minutes from the bars. It's a handful of rooms with a 5.0 Google score from about 60 reviews. It's on our LGBTQ list, but we couldn't confirm who owns it, so ask if that matters to you. The Prince Albert Hotel on Yates Street is the furthest north, 6–8 minutes from Queen Street, and also the quietest.
The Promenade, and why not South Shore
Mainstream seafront hotels make sense if you need a lift or want a sea view. The Ibis Styles opposite North Pier is under 8 minutes from the Flying Handbag. The Hilton at the north end of the Promenade is about 15 minutes' walk from North Pier, and the tram stops outside. Don't book south of the Tower to save money. Ferny House at 289 Promenade is a fair example: about 30 minutes on foot from the bars, along the busiest stag-and-hen stretch of the seafront. You'll pay for a cab every night and lose any saving.

Gay-owned, men-only and clothing-optional
Trades Hotel is men-only and has been for decades. Booking makes you a member for your stay, which is how it legally keeps women and non-members out. Gay listings tag it clothing-optional, and its residents' bar runs very late. Be honest with yourself about what it is. Tripadvisor puts it at 3.2 from about 230 reviews, with cleanliness at 2.5 and sleep quality at 2.6. The good reviews call it an institution that's perfect if you take it as it's meant. The bad ones say avoid at all costs. Old guide entries list about 30 rooms, while some newer descriptions suggest more, so confirm the room count if you're booking for a group.
The Prince Albert Hotel is an adults-only hotel for gay and bi men, 18 and over. It was fully refurbished and reopened in summer 2016, and it has no flags or signage on the front. Rooms come with a coffee machine, a safe, a mini-fridge and fast fibre wifi, and reviewers praise the proprietor, Paul. It also runs ticketed naked and fetish-themed weekends, including the FFun weekends and a New Year event. Access is by stairs only.
Welhorny's calls itself a private members' naturist guesthouse and members' bar for men only. It runs "Naked Chill" afternoons on bank holidays, with the outdoor space open. It held a current premises licence on the council register in April 2026. Non-residents need membership to use the bar, so ask how that works before you turn up.
Chaps has billed itself for years as Blackpool's largest hotel for gay men only, and its Tripadvisor listing still says so. Its 2026 website calls it a gay hotel without saying men-only. If you're a mixed group, or want a men-only house, ring and ask.
The gay-owned, everyone-welcome houses are The Molly House, DeLovely, Pride Lodge, the Belvedere and Q Accommodation. Phoenix is reported as gay-owned too. These aren't adult hotels. Women and straight friends are welcome, though most are adults-only. Two old gay listings still name Grampian House as a gay-run B&B and Gabrielle's as an all-female hotel. Travel Gay lists Legends Hotel near North Shore as gay-managed. We couldn't confirm any of the three were trading in 2026, so treat them as unverified.
Gone: the Northern Star at 9–11 Lord Street, an adults-only gay hotel with a guest bar and patio, surrendered its licence in February 2024. It shows as permanently closed, though a few booking sites still list it. Nothing gay has replaced it.
No hotel in Blackpool sells day passes to its rooms the way some resort towns do. If you want a sauna, there's Acqua on Springfield Road inside the quarter, or W3 on Charles Street to the east.
Booking rules that bite
- Guests and visitors. Many Blackpool guesthouses price per person, not per room, and residents' bars are often for residents only. In practice, a man you meet in Kaos may not be allowed past reception, or he'll be charged as an extra guest. At the men-only houses he will need to become a member too. Book two guests on the booking site from the start so no visitor question comes up. If you're a solo traveller who might bring someone back, ask the policy before you pay, not at 2 am.
- ID. England has no blanket police registration of hotel guests. Hotels must, though, record nationality and passport details for most overseas guests aged 16 and over, so non-UK visitors should carry their passport. Bars across the quarter ask for ID under Challenge 25 schemes.
- Tourist tax. There is none at present: 0% in Blackpool as of October 2026. On 10 September 2026 the government confirmed that English mayors and strategic authorities will be able to charge an Overnight Visitor Levy as a percentage of the room price. The bill to create it hasn't been introduced yet. If Lancashire adopts it, one county-wide rate would cover Blackpool. VAT at 20% is already included in the prices you see.
- Minimum stays and deposits. Expect two-night minimums at weekends during the Illuminations and over Pride. Small guesthouses often take a non-refundable deposit on direct bookings, so compare that with the booking-site rate. Several will take a card hold on arrival against damage.
- Stag and hen parties. Many guesthouses in the quarter refuse them, which works in your favour. The big Promenade hotels mostly don't.
- Prices. Rates in the quarter vary sharply between a wet Tuesday in March and a Saturday in Illuminations season. One booking site showed the Belvedere from about £87 (about US$115) a night. Treat any figure as about, and confirm the current rate before booking.

The gay calendar and where to book for it
Pride Blackpool 2027: dates TBA
The 2026 edition, the 20th, ran from 5 to 7 June at the Tower Festival Headland on the Promenade, with ticketed stage shows on Friday and Saturday. More than 20 businesses in the quarter added a street party on Lord Street on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 June. The organisers hadn't announced 2027 dates by the end of October 2026. Early June is the pattern, but don't book on a guess. When the dates are published, book the Lord Street and Dickson Road guesthouses straight away, since most have fewer than 15 rooms. If you want sleep, pick Cocker Street or Yates Street rather than Lord Street. If the village is full, the Ibis Styles opposite North Pier is the next-best base, 5–8 minutes from both the Headland and Queen Street.

New Year at the Prince Albert: 31 December 2026 to 2 January 2027
The hotel's "NUDE YEAR" package is listed by the organiser at £100. Check exactly what's included. The FFun weekends run through the year, and the hotel publishes the dates.
Illuminations season
The Illuminations run until 3 January 2027. That's not a gay event, but it is why Friday and Saturday rooms in the quarter are scarcer and dearer from September to early January. Book weekend stays in that period a few weeks ahead at least.

Weekly fixtures and bear events
The Growlr Club bear night at Man Bar on Dickson Road is a weekend fixture, so you don't need to plan a trip around it. Blackpool has no confirmed bear week, circuit party or fetish weekend in the next 12 months apart from the hotel events above. If you see one advertised, check it with the organiser.
Getting back at 3 am
From the airport. Most people fly into Manchester. Direct trains run from Manchester Airport to Blackpool North in roughly 1 hour 15 to 1 hour 30, and you come out at the top of Talbot Road, 1–3 minutes from Pride Lodge and under 8 minutes from every guesthouse in this guide. Check National Rail for the last direct train, which leaves in the late evening, and for Sunday engineering works, which often mean a slow bus replacement. Blackpool's own airport has very few scheduled flights, so confirm your route before relying on it.
From the bars. In the quarter you walk, and that's the main reason to stay there. Queen Street to Yates Street is the longest walk in this guide at about 8 minutes, along lit, busy streets. Hackney cabs wait at the ranks around Talbot Road and the station. Local firms take bookings by phone and app. Uber coverage in Blackpool varies, so don't count on it on a Saturday at 3 am. The Promenade tram runs from Starr Gate to Fleetwood, and North Pier is the stop for the quarter. It doesn't run all night, and late-evening services change with the season, so check the timetable before relying on it for Ferny House or the Hilton.
Street by street. Inside the quarter the walk home is short and usually crowded. The trouble at weekends tends to be on the Promenade and around Talbot Square at closing time, with drunk stag groups and queues for kebabs, not in the gay streets. Coming back from W3 or from south of the Tower late at night, take a cab instead of walking the seafront alone.

Health, safety and the law
Sexual health. The NHS clinic is Sexual Health Services Blackpool at Whitegate Health Centre, 150 Whitegate Drive, about 2 km east of the centre. It offers STI and HIV testing, HIV care and PrEP. STI testing and treatment are free at NHS sexual health clinics to everyone, including visitors. Overseas visitors should check whether they're eligible for PrEP. For PEP, call the clinic as soon as it opens. Out of hours, go to A&E at Blackpool Victoria Hospital and don't wait for Monday.
Apps. Meet first in a bar on Queen Street or Dickson Road, tell a friend which guesthouse you're in, and keep your phone and wallet out of reach of anyone you've just met. We found no reports in 2025 or 2026 of dating-app robberies or attacks on gay visitors in Blackpool. That doesn't mean none happened, so the usual rules still apply.
Drugs. Cannabis is illegal (Class B). GHB and GBL have been Class B since 2022, and possession can mean up to 5 years in prison. Poppers are sold openly and aren't treated as illegal to possess. Every guesthouse in the quarter is small enough that the owner will notice chemsex. Most have zero-tolerance terms, and the men-only houses enforce them too, so expect to be asked to leave, with the police called if someone is in trouble.
Smoking. Smoking is banned indoors in bars, lounges and shared areas by law. Guesthouses add their own cleaning charges for smoking or vaping in rooms. Read the small print, because the charge is often more than a night's rate.
Public sex. The dunes south of Starr Gate towards St Annes have been named in cruising guides for decades, but we couldn't confirm that current guides still list them. Sex anywhere you're likely to be seen can be prosecuted, and sex in a public toilet is a specific offence. Blackpool has no designated gay beach.
The law. Same-sex relationships and marriage are fully legal, and the Equality Act 2010 makes it illegal to refuse a room or a double bed because of your sexuality. A mainstream hotel that tries it is breaking the law.
Three picks

Budget: Chaps Hotel
It's a gay guesthouse with proper single rooms, which is rare, and breakfast is included. Reviews from 2026 are consistently good. Cocker Street is quiet enough to sleep on and only 5–7 minutes from Queen Street. If you're in a couple and both on a tight budget, the rooms above Mardi Gras are the other option, and you take the noise with them.
Mid-range: The Molly House
It's gay-owned, with 14 en-suite rooms, a licensed bar and breakfast included. It's 1–2 minutes from Funny Girls and 3–5 minutes from Acqua, so it's central without being above a nightclub. It also takes mixed groups that the men-only houses can't.

Splurge (in Blackpool terms): The Prince Albert Hotel
It's the most hotel-like of the men-only houses: refurbished, discreet and quiet on Yates Street, with good kit in the rooms and a host guests rave about. If you aren't a man or don't want an adult house, DeLovely on Lord Street is the step-up choice, with themed rooms and owners who know the scene.
Frequently asked

Is the Trades Hotel in Blackpool men-only?
Yes. Booking makes you a member for your stay, and only men are admitted. It's clothing-optional and openly adult, and the bar runs late, so it isn't the place for an early night.
Which gay hotels in Blackpool are men-only in 2026?
The Trades, the Prince Albert and Welhorny's, which is a naturist members' guesthouse. Chaps has long billed itself as men-only, but its current website doesn't say so, so ask before booking.

Which hotel is closest to Funny Girls and the Flying Handbag?
Q Accommodation and The Molly House are 1–2 minutes from Funny Girls. Pride Lodge on High Street is 1–3 minutes from the Flying Handbag and Kaos, and is opposite Blackpool North station.
Can I bring a guest back to my Blackpool guesthouse?
Often only as a paying extra guest, and at the men-only hotels he'll need membership. Book two guests from the start, or ask the policy before you arrive.
Is there a tourist tax in Blackpool?
Not as of October 2026. The government has confirmed that English mayors will be able to charge a percentage-based Overnight Visitor Levy, but it isn't law yet. Lancashire hasn't adopted one.
Is the Northern Star still open?
No. It surrendered its licence in February 2024 and is closed. Ignore any booking-site listing for it.
When is Blackpool Pride 2027?
It hadn't been announced as of October 2026. The 2026 edition ran from 5 to 7 June at the Tower Festival Headland, with a street party on Lord Street.
