Copenhagen’s known for good design, and its shops show it: high quality, considered, and not cheap. You'll find a few LGBTQ-specific shops, along with plenty of gay-friendly options.
LGBTQ-specific shops
You won't find a "gaybourhood" here. The city's queer scene is spread out, and so are its LGBTQ+ shops. They sell pride merch, adult items, queer books and magazines, and clothing with a gay identity.
Some gay bars also sell merchandise. Often, their stock and hours are more reliable than dedicated shops.
General Copenhagen shopping
For everything else, Copenhagen’s general shopping is great. Strøget and the streets nearby have all the usual international brands.
Nørrebro has independent clothing, books, and lifestyle shops, drawing a younger, more alternative crowd. Vesterbro, another neighborhood to check out, mixes vintage finds with design shops. Near Nørreport station, Torvehallerne covered market is good for food and artisan products.
Design is where Copenhagen really shines. Danish homeware, furniture, and lifestyle products are worth buying here; prices in Denmark are better than the export premium you'd pay elsewhere.
The shops
- Homoware — This gay lifestyle shop sells sex toys, lubes (Scandinavia's largest collection, they say), condoms, underwear, fetish gear, and accessories. Homoware is also Denmark's only MisterB stockist. You can buy online too.
- Men's Shop — This gay shop in Copenhagen sells DVDs, lubes, condoms, clothing, toys, and other entertainment items. You can buy online if you can't make it to the store. Mens Shop also sells tickets for gay parties and festivals in the city.
