✓ Same-sex relations legal ✓ Same-Sex Marriage ✓ Pride Events ⚖️ Denmark holds a unique place in LGBTQ+ legal history as the first country in the world to legally recognise same-sex partnerships, having enacted the Registered Partnership Act on 1 October 1989. That law � the first of its kind anywhere on earth � gave same-sex couples nearly all the rights of marriage and set a precedent that would eventually be followed by dozens of countries across the following three decades. Denmark took the final step to full marriage equality in 2012, when the Church of Denmark (Folkekirken) became the first national church in the world to perform same-sex weddings. Full and equal adoption rights are in place: same-sex couples may jointly adopt, adopt step-children, and access assisted reproduction on equal terms with opposite-sex couples. Transgender legal recognition without medical requirements has been available since 2014 � applicants need only submit a declaration of gender identity, with no surgery, hormone treatment, or psychiatric diagnosis required. A six-month reflection period was initially required but was reduced significantly. Conversion therapy has been effectively banned. Anti-discrimination law prohibits discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity in employment, goods, services, and education. Denmark consistently scores among the top five countries globally in the ILGA-Europe Rainbow Index. Score: 97/100.
