About This Event
Copenhagen Pride is the main LGBTQ+ event in Denmark, the country that introduced registered partnerships in 1989. The first parade marched in 1996, and 2026 marked its 30th anniversary. It is a week of politics and partying centred on Pride Square, set up on Rådhuspladsen in front of City Hall, and it is easy to enjoy as a visitor: the city is compact, the crowd is relaxed, and everything that matters is free.
The parade is the peak. It sets off from Frederiksberg City Hall early on Saturday afternoon and winds through Frederiksberg and the inner city to Rådhuspladsen, where the floats roll in from about 3pm and the evening carries on with the Parade Show, drag acts, speeches and live music. The square hosts concerts and talks all week, and the bars on and around Studiestræde, the city's small gay quarter, are packed. The Metro runs along much of the parade route, which makes it easy to catch the procession at more than one point.
The pattern is mid-August, with the parade on the Saturday towards the end of Pride week. Copenhagen hotels are pricey and the city is busy with summer tourists, so book early or look at apartments in Nørrebro and Vesterbro. August weather is mild, with a real chance of a shower.
Copenhagen Pride has had a rough few years. In early 2024 it asked sponsors about their interests and activities in Israel and Palestine, and almost half of them, including Maersk, Google and Novo Nordisk, walked away. The organisation was already in deficit, close to DKK 1.5 million in 2023, and its chair resigned in May 2024. Google, Danske Bank and Dansk Industri came back for 2025, but Novo Nordisk said no again for 2026, and the organisers say they are still not back to former levels while needing around DKK 10 million a year. In 2026 they added a parade block for employees of companies that had withdrawn. The 30th parade ran on Saturday 15 August 2026 under the theme "Pride: until the job is done". In 2023, the organisers estimated 35,000 marchers and about 250,000 spectators. The 2027 dates hadn't been announced when we checked.

Practical Tips
The parade steps off from Frederiksberg Radhusplads at 1pm on Saturday Aug 15 — get there by noon if you want a spot up front along the 3.3 km route.
Scandinavia's largest Pride, with roughly 40,000 marchers in 160 groups and hundreds of thousands of spectators — pack water and comfortable shoes.
The Metro M1/M2 lines drop you close to the route; driving into the city centre on parade day is a lost cause.
2026 marks Copenhagen Pride's 30th anniversary, so expect an extended programme at Pride Square across the week.
