Step out of Cornavin station at night and walk downhill towards the lake, and within five minutes you are in the Pâquis: kebab shops and small cafés, hotel neon, cabaret signs and the smell of grilled meat, with the Jet d'Eau switched off and the lake black at the end of every street. This is Geneva's busiest late-night quarter, and it's where most of the city's cruising happens. The scene is small for a city of international organisations: one men-only cruise club, a sex shop with cabins and a maze, and a gay sauna out towards the airport. Prices are Swiss, the doors are discreet, and nothing much happens before 22:00.

Legal in one line: Switzerland decriminalised same-sex relations nationally in 1942 and has had marriage for all since 1 July 2022; cruise clubs, sex-shop cabins and gay saunas are legal private venues for adults. Sex in public is another matter: exhibitionism (Article 194 of the Swiss Criminal Code) and confronting someone with a sexual act (Article 198, désagréments d'ordre sexuel) are prosecuted when someone files a complaint.

How cruising works in Geneva

Almost everything is in the Pâquis, the grid of streets between Cornavin station and the Quai du Mont-Blanc, which is also Geneva's red-light and late-bar district. You ring, pay at the desk, and go in; most visitors start with a drink at the bar and drift towards the cabins later. Weekends are when the clubs stay open into the small hours, while weeknights can be quiet. Grindr is widely used, and many men combine the app with a visit to the club.

The cruise club

Cruising Canyon · Rue du Docteur-Alfred-Vincent 15, 1201 Genève (Pâquis)

Geneva's men-only cruise club, a couple of streets from Cornavin station. Petit Futé says it opened in 2010. Its own website describes about 300 m² of space for gay men, "discreet, clean and open late at night", with a maze of video booths, a backroom and a sling; Travel Gay adds a darkroom, relaxing cabins and a bar. It runs themed nights, including naked, hood, fetish and bi nights, according to its site and the Swiss queer magazine 360°; past visitors mention a naked-and-underwear night on Sundays, but check the club's site for this month's programme.

    • Hours (official website): Tuesday to Thursday and Sunday 19:00–01:00; Friday and Saturday 20:00–05:00; closed on Mondays. Other listings give later closing times, so check before you go.
    • Price: a visitor reported a CHF 19 entry fee in April 2025, with drinks extra (older reviews mention drinks from about CHF 6). An older review said cards were not accepted, so bring cash.
    • What visitors say: Google reviews from 2025 and June 2026 confirm it is still running. They are mixed: some praise friendly staff, a clean, well-designed space and a varied crowd, especially on Friday and Saturday nights; others found the door policy inconsistent, a Friday night quiet, and the entry fee high for the crowd.

    Sex shop with cabins

Substation X-World · Rue de Neuchâtel 14, 1201 Genève (Pâquis)

A few minutes' walk from Cruising Canyon, Substation is a sex shop with adult films, private cabins in the basement and a maze, according to Petit Futé. Leathermen Travel describes it as a well-stocked, mostly gay shop with cruising space on several floors. It's the place for a quick visit or an afternoon, when the club is still closed. We couldn't find official hours or prices, or a dated 2026 review, so check before you go.

    The saunas, briefly

Sauna les Avanchets · Les Avanchets, 1220 Vernier

Geneva's gay sauna isn't in the centre: it's in Vernier, about 6 km out, towards the airport. Wanderlog describes it as a men's gay sauna with a dry sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and a darkroom and maze, older but popular, and Google reviewers praise friendly staff, the owner and plenty of towels. Petit Futé, however, says it welcomes "all tastes", including bi men and women, and reviews mention women working there, so if you want a gay men's afternoon, ask when you phone. Reviewers have also complained about changes to the entry fee. Listed hours run from 12:00 until about midnight, later on Friday and Saturday; ring +41 22 796 90 66 or check saunalesavanchets.ch before you make the trip.

Les Bains de l'Est · Rue de l'Est 3, Genève

A renovated sauna and spa with a pool, close to Rive. It isn't a gay sauna: Leathermen Travel lists it for occasional gay events and suggests checking its calendar, so go on a night that is advertised for men, or treat it as an ordinary spa.

Don't confuse either with the Bains des Pâquis, the much-loved public baths on the jetty in the lake. They have a sauna and hammam in winter and a mixed, family crowd, and they are not a cruising place.

Gone or uncertain: some older guides list other Geneva saunas and clubs we could not find any recent trace of. G Club (Rue de Malatrex 30), a men-only club of about 300 m², is still listed by Petit Futé, but we found no recent review or sign that it is operating. If a venue in another guide isn't on this page, assume it has closed until you have checked.

Outdoors: why we keep you indoors

Some older guides and forums mention parks on the right bank of the lake. We don't give directions. They are public parks used by families, joggers and the staff of the international organisations, and the law below applies.

    The law and your safety:

    • Exhibitionism (Article 194, Swiss Criminal Code): prosecuted on complaint and punishable by a monetary penalty.
    • Article 198 (désagréments d'ordre sexuel): anyone who confronts a person who isn't expecting it with a sexual act, or bothers someone with unwanted sexual touching, can be fined, again on complaint. If someone who didn't want to see it calls the police, you are the one at risk.
    • Robbery: quiet paths and car parks are where thieves look for men who won't go to the police. Take only your phone, one card and a little cash.
    • Police: if officers approach you, stay calm and polite and show your ID.
    • Emergency: police 117, ambulance 144, European emergency number 112.

Cruising Canyon is open six nights a week and is a short walk from the station: it's the legal, safer choice.

A Geneva night, the local way

Start with the lake. In summer, Genevans swim off the Bains des Pâquis jetty and stay on for an apéro as the sun drops behind the Jura; in winter the same jetty's buvette is known for its fondue, eaten with a glass of white Chasselas from the Geneva vineyards. The Pâquis itself is full of small, late-opening restaurants from all over the world, a few blocks from the club. Across the river, Plainpalais and the Eaux-Vives have the student bars and a few queer-friendly spots, and our Geneva bars guide has the places to start the night.

    Practical tips

    • Money: everything is in Swiss francs (CHF). Many places take cards and the TWINT app, but carry cash for entry fees in case the card machine is "broken" or not offered.
    • Lockers and phones: lock away your phone and wallet before you head for the cabins, and keep the locker key on your wrist. No photos, ever.
    • Consent: "non" is enough, and you can always walk away or leave. Staff should step in if someone ignores that.
    • Chems: if GHB/GBL is around, never mix it with alcohol and never dose someone else. Call 144 in an emergency.
    • PEP: after a risk, start treatment as soon as possible and within 48 hours. In office hours, the HIV unit of the Hôpitaux Universitaires de Genève (HUG) at Rue Gabrielle-Perret-Gentil 4 can provide it; on weekday evenings after 18:00 and at weekends, go to the HUG emergency department at the same address. Aspasie's guide puts the cost at around CHF 1,500, covered by Swiss basic health insurance.
    • PrEP and testing: Groupe santé Genève, at Rue du Grand-Pré 9 (phone 022 700 15 00), runs a sexual health consultation by appointment for testing, PrEP, vaccination and urgent needs including PEP. The HUG publishes up-to-date lists of where to get tested in Geneva.
    • Getting home: Cruising Canyon and Substation are five to ten minutes' walk from Cornavin. The TPG's Noctambus night buses run on Friday and Saturday nights, and the Léman Express runs later at weekends; check the times in the TPG or SBB app before you go in. For the Avanchets sauna late at night, a taxi or Uber is easiest.
    • Language: Geneva speaks French. Staff usually speak some English, but a few words of French help at the door.

    Geneva Pride

Geneva Pride's big year was 2025, when the city hosted the Pride romande, the French-speaking Swiss Pride, with the march through central Geneva on Saturday 7 June 2025, as reported by the Tribune de Genève and swissinfo. In 2026 there was no Geneva march: the Pride romande moved to Lausanne, according to event listings. Geneva is expected to host again in 2027, but no dates had been confirmed by early November 2026; watch genevapride.ch.

Frequently asked questions

Where is gay cruising in Geneva?

Mostly in the Pâquis, the district between Cornavin station and the lake. Cruising Canyon at Rue du Docteur-Alfred-Vincent 15 is the men-only cruise club, and the Substation sex shop at Rue de Neuchâtel 14 has private cabins and a maze. Sauna les Avanchets in Vernier, towards the airport, is the gay sauna.

How much does Cruising Canyon cost?

A visitor reported paying CHF 19 to get in in April 2025, and drinks are extra. There is no official price list online, so bring some cash and check at the door.

Is there a gay sauna in Geneva?

Yes, but it isn't central. Sauna les Avanchets, in Vernier towards the airport, is described as a men's gay sauna with a dry sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and darkroom, although some listings say women are also welcome. Phone ahead to check the day's hours and who it is open to.

Is outdoor cruising legal in Switzerland?

Sex between men is legal, but sex where others can see it is not. Exhibitionism (Article 194 of the Swiss Criminal Code) and confronting someone with a sexual act (Article 198) are prosecuted when a witness files a complaint. Geneva's cruise club and sauna are the legal alternative.

Was there a Geneva Pride in 2026?

Not a march in Geneva. In 2026 the Pride romande, the French-speaking Swiss Pride, was held in Lausanne, after Geneva hosted it on Saturday 7 June 2025. Geneva is expected to host again in 2027, but no dates had been confirmed by November 2026.
