Gran Canaria’s gay nightlife splits into two distinct spots, just like the island itself: the Yumbo Centre in the Maspalomas resort, and the Triana neighborhood in Las Palmas. They’re completely different experiences, for different kinds of visitors.
The Yumbo Centre: how it works
The Yumbo Centre in Playa del Inglés is a shopping mall by day. Around 11pm, its entire upper level turns into a nightlife hub. It’s an unusual setup: you walk between bars on open-air gallery levels. Each venue opens onto a floor. There are bars for different ages, styles, and music tastes — a bear bar on one floor, a circuit club on another, a quiet cocktail spot on a third. Because everything’s so close, you can hit a lot of places in one night without needing a taxi.
The Yumbo crowd is international. Any given night, you’ll find British, German, Dutch, Scandinavian, and Spanish visitors mingling with locals. The mix changes through the year. Brits dominate in winter, spring brings more Europeans, and Spanish tourists arrive in summer. Maspalomas Pride in May is when the place really goes off.
Yumbo nightlife runs later than mainland Spain. Bars peak between 1am and 5am. Some stay open until 8am or 9am during busy periods. The resort has no residential neighbors right by the complex, so there aren't the noise restrictions you find in cities.
Las Palmas: the city scene
Las Palmas has a smaller, more local gay bar scene in Triana and the surrounding areas. These bars are for the city’s gay residents, not the resort tourists. The mood is definitely different from Yumbo — more Canarian, quieter, more about socializing and less about dancing or late-night clubbing. If the resort scene feels too much, a day or evening in Las Palmas offers another side of the island's gay life.
Pride weeks
Maspalomas Gay Pride in May means official Pride events at the Yumbo Centre for several weeks. Individual venues run themed nights; the parade ends in or near the resort area; and the complex gets way more crowded than usual. Some bars host ticketed pool parties at nearby hotels. It’s more of a multi-week festival than a single-day celebration.

Practical notes
You can walk to the Yumbo Centre from most Maspalomas and Playa del Inglés hotels. Taxis are easy to find at night. Drinks at Yumbo are resort-priced — think European beach towns, not mainland Spain.
