By day the Yumbo Centre in Playa del Inglés is a slightly tired 1980s shopping mall, with exchange offices, souvenir shops and a supermarket. At ten at night the shutters on the upper floor go up, the drag bars fill the terraces, and around midnight the crowd starts drifting towards the darker doors on the same walkways. Maspalomas has around ten men's cruise clubs, most of them inside the Yumbo or within a few minutes' walk of it. Cruising has largely moved into those clubs. The dunes, the place everyone has heard about, are now a closely patrolled nature reserve. Here is what was open in 2026, how the clubs work, and what the reserve rules mean for you.
Legal in one line: sex between men is fully legal in Spain, same-sex marriage has been legal since 2005, and cruise clubs are legal private venues for adults. Sex in public is a different matter, and the Maspalomas Dunes have their own strict rules: see the boxes below.
Before you head for the dunes: cruising in Maspalomas now happens mostly in the clubs. Behind the gay beach at kiosks 6 and 7, leaving the marked trails of the dunes reserve is an environmental offence, and it is actively enforced: agents and police patrol on foot, on quads and with drones, a sunset patrol was added in 2026, and fines have typically been around €150. Details are in the dunes section.
How cruising works in Maspalomas
Most cruising here happens in clubs, not outdoors. The Yumbo Centre, on Avenida de Estados Unidos in Playa del Inglés, has the social bars and drag shows on its upper levels and several cruise clubs on the same walkways and the ground floor. A second cluster sits a few minutes away in the Barbados apartment complex on Avenida de Tirajana and on the streets around the centre. Many clubs open at 21:00 or 22:00 but don't fill until after midnight. Entry is often around €8–10 with a drink included, and each club runs a weekly calendar of dress-code nights: naked, underwear, leather, jockstrap or fetish. Have a drink upstairs first and work your way round.
The clubs change hands and hours often. The details below come from listings updated in 2025 and 2026, and most of the clubs below also appear in the 2026 hot-party venue guide of Bear Carnival, the bear festival held in Maspalomas. Check each club's social media for the night's theme before you go.
Cruise clubs in the Yumbo Centre

Cruisebar · Yumbo Centre, upper floor (2nd level)
The Gay Passport, which updated its listing in June 2026, calls it the longest-running bear and leather cruise bar on the island. It describes a large bar, cabins, maze-like corridors, slings, a video room, glory holes and two darkrooms, open every night from 22:00 to 04:00. The crowd is mostly bears, leather and fetish men, but everyone is welcome. Lockers take a €1 deposit, according to Bear Carnival.
Tom's Cruising Bar · Yumbo Centre, upper floor
A cruise bar with a darkroom and a smoking terrace, open from 21:00 with free entry and no general dress code, according to Travel Gay. Bear Carnival's 2026 guide lists a paid cloakroom (€1.50) and suggests harnesses on its official festival night. It's a good first stop, as the terrace works as a bar before the back rooms get busy.

The Box · Yumbo Centre, upper floor
A small men's bar with a large darkroom, a sling, a "punishment" area and cabins, as described by Nighttours, with free lockers for clothes according to Travel Gay. Couple of Men, updated in December 2025, calls it an intimate cruising venue. Hours aren't published reliably, so look in after midnight.
Noxon · Yumbo Centre, upper floor
A cruise club of about 200 m² with five slings, cabins, glory holes, orgy beds and a terrace, and weekly fetish theme nights. The Gay Passport lists 21:00–02:00 nightly and an entry fee of €8 including a drink (2025). Bear Carnival lists a free cloakroom.

Strong Construction · Yumbo Centre, ground floor
A leather and industrial-style cruise bar with a terrace, slings, glory holes, orgy beds and a "puppy house". Older listings give 22:00–06:00 daily and €10 with a drink; Bear Carnival says most men wear underwear or less and that a locker with a key is free with a deposit.
Cruise clubs near the Yumbo

The Factory · Avenida 8 de Marzo 31
A few steps from the Yumbo. Travel Gay describes about 400 m² with two labyrinths, slings, glory holes, a large orgy bed and private cabins, with lockers included, open Monday to Saturday 21:00–03:00 and Sunday 17:00–03:00. Couple of Men calls it the largest cruise bar in the area, over two floors. One 2025 reviewer found it full of regulars and not welcoming to newcomers, so go with friends the first time.
Zoo · Barbados II, Avenida de Tirajana 17
In the Barbados apartment complex, about 400 m from the Yumbo. The Gay Passport (updated June 2026) describes two floors of darkrooms, glory holes and large beds, open nightly 22:00–04:00, with €10 entry including a drink. Every night has a theme; the listing gives naked nights on Sunday and Monday and fetish nights on Friday and Saturday. Bear Carnival lists the dress code as underwear or naked.

Reds · Barbados II, Avenida de Tirajana 17
In the same complex as Zoo. A two-floor club of about 200 m² with a bar, a smoking terrace, cabins with glory holes and group beds, according to The Gay Passport, which says the crowd is mostly over 35. Listed hours vary between 20:00–02:30 and 21:00–04:00; entry has been around €10 with a drink. Dress codes change nightly, from underwear to fetish to "sex in the dark".
Basement Studios · Avenida de Estados Unidos 37
A small men-only resort near the Yumbo with a pool and open-air play area, daily cruising, relaxed nudity and themed fetish parties, according to Nighttours and Bear Carnival. Most men go naked. Lockers are limited.
Bear Carnival's 2026 guide also lists Club Kiki, a disco with a darkroom. For the social bars, drag bars and dance clubs, see our Maspalomas bars page.
Closed: the men-only fetish club Bunker in the Yumbo Centre is marked closed by Travel Gay, though older guides still list it.
Saunas
The south of Gran Canaria also has men's saunas with darkrooms and cabins, among them Heroes inside the Yumbo Centre. Hours change with the season, so see our Maspalomas saunas page and check before you go. Up in the capital, Sauna Portugal is covered in our Las Palmas cruising guide.
The Maspalomas Dunes
The Maspalomas Dunes are the most famous gay spot on the island. The long beach walk from Playa del Inglés towards the Maspalomas lighthouse passes a row of numbered beach kiosks. The gay section of the beach gathers around kiosks 6 and 7 (kiosk 6 was previously numbered 5), and for decades men cruised in the dunes behind them, according to Couple of Men. The naturist sections near kiosk 4 are mixed and also attract swingers.
The dunes behind the beach are the Reserva Natural Especial de las Dunas de Maspalomas, a protected nature reserve. The rules there have tightened a lot, and you need to know them before you go:
- Trails only. The Cabildo (island government) says the marked trails are the only places where walking is allowed. Leaving them, and entering the fenced exclusion zones, is an offence, and signs in Spanish, English and German say so.
- Real patrols. Environmental agents (agentes de medio ambiente) have patrolled since 2020 with powers to fine. Joint operations with the Guardia Civil's SEPRONA unit, the Policía Canaria and San Bartolomé de Tirajana's local police now use quads, motorbikes and drones. In one four-hour operation in September 2025 they stopped 75 people in prohibited areas and filed 18 reports.
- Evenings are watched. From late August 2026 the Cabildo added a special patrol at sunset, and loudspeakers at the Mirador de las Dunas play warnings every 15 minutes between 18:00 and 21:00.
- Fines. A 2023 report by RTVC, the Canary Islands public broadcaster, said most fines were €150, reduced by 20% for prompt payment, with higher fines for film and photo crews. In 2025, 151 cases were opened against foreign visitors alone.
- No shelters, no rubbish. A 2021 University of Las Palmas study mapped almost 300 spots in the reserve used for sex, many inside the most protected zones. It found shelters made by pulling up plants, which threatens endemic species and loosens the sand, and large amounts of litter. Don't build or use windbreaks, and take everything out with you.
- Criminal law: exhibitionism is a crime under Article 185 of Spain's Código Penal only when it takes place in front of minors or people with disabilities.
- Public order law: obscene exhibition in public that isn't a crime is a minor offence under Article 37.5 of Ley Orgánica 4/2015 (the public security law), with fines of €100 to €600. Police can also move you on.
- Nature reserve: leaving the trails in the dunes is a separate environmental offence, enforced on the spot by environmental agents and police.
- Theft: keep valuables with you on the beach and carry only your phone, one card and a little cash. Use lockers in the clubs, and don't take valuables into darkrooms.
- Heat: the dunes have no shade and the sand gets very hot. Carry water, wear a hat and high-factor sun cream, and avoid the middle of the day in summer.
- Emergency: call 112 for police, ambulance and fire.
- Entry and drinks: most clubs charge around €8–10 with a drink; some bars are free and make their money on drinks. Small notes help.
- Dress codes: check the night's theme on the club's social media. Some clubs ask you to leave flip-flops at home for the darkrooms.
- Lockers and phones: use the locker or cloakroom, take the wristband or key with you, and never take photos inside.
- Consent: a no, or no answer, means no, in any room and on any night.
- Health: condoms are usually available at the clubs. If you need PEP, Spain's Ministry of Health advises going to a hospital emergency department (urgencias), ideally within six hours and no later than 72 hours. The island's main public hospitals, Hospital Universitario Insular and Hospital Doctor Negrín, are in Las Palmas, about 50 minutes north by road. The Centro de Salud de Maspalomas is the local public health centre. Bring a European Health Insurance Card or your travel insurance details. Bring your own PrEP supply.
- Chems: if GHB/GBL is around, never mix it with alcohol and never dose for someone else. Call 112 in an emergency.
- Getting around: the Yumbo, The Factory, Zoo, Reds and Basement Studios are all walkable from most Playa del Inglés hotels. Global bus line 30 links Playa del Inglés with Las Palmas (San Telmo), and line 66 runs between Maspalomas and the airport, stopping in Playa del Inglés; night services are reduced, so check the Global timetable before a late trip north.
- Where to stay: Maspalomas has many men-only and clothing-optional bungalow complexes; see our Maspalomas hotels page.
- ¿Cuánto cuesta la entrada? – how much is entry?
- Taquilla – locker. Guardarropa – cloakroom. Toalla – towel.
- Cuarto oscuro – darkroom.
- Sendero – trail. Prohibido el paso – no entry.
- Multa – fine.
- Condón or preservativo – condom.
- Urgencias – emergency department.
- Guagua – bus, in Canarian Spanish.
- No, gracias – no, thanks. Always enough.
In practice, the dunes are now a place to sunbathe on the gay beach and meet people, not a place to leave the path. Anyone who meets someone there has the whole of Playa del Inglés, and its clubs and men-only hotels, a short walk away.
The law and your safety:
Pride: Maspalomas Pride and Winter Pride
Maspalomas Pride, the big spring festival centred on the Yumbo, was held from 4 to 10 May 2026; its main day is traditionally a Saturday parade of floats. Winter Pride Maspalomas runs from 2 to 8 November 2026, with its main stage at the Yumbo Centre. Both weeks bring the busiest nights of the year in the cruise clubs, and the authorities step up their watch on the dunes. Hotels, especially the men-only ones, fill months ahead.
A Canarian night, the local way
Start with papas arrugadas, small wrinkled potatoes boiled in salty water, with a red mojo of peppers and a green one of coriander, and a cold local beer. Then take a seat on the Yumbo's terraces, strung with rainbow flags and coloured lights, and watch the drag shows start. After midnight the kiosks and late cafés around the Yumbo sell sandwiches and coffee. For the morning after, order a barraquito, the Canarian coffee served in a glass in clear layers: condensed milk at the bottom, a liqueur such as Licor 43, then espresso and frothed milk. Sit in the shade and take your time.

Frequently asked questions
Where is gay cruising in Maspalomas?
In the clubs, where cruising has largely moved. Most are on the Yumbo Centre's upper floor in Playa del Inglés, with more in the Barbados II complex and nearby streets, and they get busy after midnight.
Can you cruise in the Maspalomas dunes?
Not off the trails. The dunes are a protected reserve, and leaving the marked paths is an environmental offence that agents and police enforce with patrols, quads and drones. Most fines have been around €150.
Is public sex legal in Spain?
No. Sex between men is legal, but obscene exhibition in public can bring a fine of €100 to €600 under the public security law, and it becomes a crime if minors or people with disabilities see it. In the dunes, reserve fines come on top.
When is Winter Pride Maspalomas 2026?
This year's Winter Pride takes place from 2 to 8 November 2026, centred on the Yumbo. The spring festival, Maspalomas Pride, was held on 4–10 May 2026, and both weeks are the busiest in the clubs.
Where can I get PEP in Gran Canaria?
At a hospital emergency department (urgencias), within 72 hours of the risk and the sooner the better. The university hospitals are in Las Palmas, about 50 minutes away, and the Centro de Salud de Maspalomas is the nearest public health centre.
