The honest summary: Nice has a small, walkable gay scene that punches above its size for a city of 360,000: about a dozen gay bars and clubs, one men-only sauna, three men's cruising clubs and a couple of informal gay beaches, plus a July Pride and a queer night at the Carnival. It isn't a gay capital like Paris or Barcelona. What it has is a steady local crowd, a summer influx from the whole Riviera, and everything within a 20-minute walk.
Legal in one line: same-sex relations have been legal in France since 1791, marriage and adoption since 2013, and discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation or gender identity is illegal. Public affection between men or women is unremarkable in central Nice.
Where the scene is
There's no single gay district, but there are three clusters. The best known is the area locals call the Petit Marais niçois: Rue Bonaparte and the streets between Place Garibaldi and the port. The second is a strip of bars in the centre around Rue Gubernatis and Place Wilson, a few minutes from Place Masséna. The third is Vieux Nice, the old town, where several bars sit in vaulted cellars on Rue Benoît Bunico and Rue de la Préfecture. Older guides call Vieux Nice "the heart of the scene"; today most of the gay bars are actually just outside it.
Bars and clubs
In the Petit Marais, Rainbow Bar on Rue Bonaparte is the easy first stop, with cocktails, tapas and drag or karaoke nights from Wednesday to Sunday. Nearby, Le Swing on Rue Defly does apéro, karaoke and drag, and Ramdam bar on Rue Lascaris, by the old port, is an LGBTQIA+ concept bar with a small gallery and DJ nights (open since November 2023).
In the centre, Le Couloir on Rue Alberti is a narrow bar for a drink and conversation, and La Cave Wilson on Rue Gubernatis is a gay cabaret bar in a 1904 cellar (gay since 2015), with drag shows and a Sunday cabaret. For dancing, Le Glam on Rue Eugène Emanuel opens Friday to Sunday from midnight, L’Oméga Club - Nice in Passage Émile Négrin does electro and house parties, and Le Six, now branded Club le 6, has been running drag-and-dance nights in Vieux Nice since 1999. When everything shuts, LE KLUBBER on Rue Benoît Bunico runs as an after-hours club from 04:30.
Newer names: Mon Amour Bar on Rue Francis Gallo (opened June 2025) and BLITZ Bar on Rue de la Préfecture (late 2023). Two gay-friendly bars that many gay locals use are Coco Bar, a tiny wine bar on Rue Droite, and Les Folies d'Edmonde, a cocktail cellar with drag bingo and lip-sync nights.

Sauna and cruising clubs
Les Bains-Douches on Rue Gubernatis is the city's only men-only gay sauna, open since 1997, daily 13:00 to 21:00, cash only. Sauna du Château by Vieux Nice is a mixed sauna for men, women and couples, so don't go expecting a gay sauna. Le Cercle on Avenue Clément Ader is a mixed libertine sauna, not a gay one.
Nice has three men's cruising clubs: Le 7 on Rue Foncet (three floors with a steam room), Le Code on Rue Jean-Pierre Papon near the port (since about 2012), and Morgan Cruising Bar Gay on Rue Claudia, west of the centre. A fourth, L'Alpha Bar, opened next to L'Oméga at the end of October 2026; we'll list it once a second source confirms it's running.
Outdoors, older French guides list the port breakwater (La Jetée (Port de Nice breakwater)) as a cruising area. We couldn't confirm current activity. Sex in any place open to public view is a criminal offence in France, so the indoor clubs are the legal option.
Beaches
Nice has no official gay beach. The informal gay stretch is Gay Beach at Castel Plage: the public pebbles on the Quai des États-Unis next to the Castel Plage concession, below Castle Hill. It's mixed and clothed. The private club next door was reported closed after an inspection in late September 2026, which doesn't affect the public beach. East of the port, the rocks at Coco Beach are popular with gay men for sunbathing. Further east, outside Nice, Plage St Laurent d'Eze (Èze, about 10 km) and Plage des Pissarelles (Cap-d'Ail, about 13 km) are used as naturist beaches, mostly by men. None of these has a municipal naturist designation, so nudity is tolerated in practice only and can be fined. See our beaches guide for buses and access.

Pride and events
- Pink Parade (Nice Pride), organised by AGLAE, is held on a Saturday in July. The 2026 march left Place de l'Île de Beauté at the port at 15:30 on 11 July and followed the quays and the Promenade des Anglais to the Théâtre de Verdure for the Pink Party. The 2027 date had not been announced at the time of writing.
- Lou Queernaval is the queer night of the Carnaval de Nice: a free evening parade on Place Masséna (11th edition, 27 February 2026). Carnaval 2027 runs 9 to 28 February; the Queernaval date hasn't been published.
- In&Out, the queer film festival run by Les Ouvreur·es, ran 23 April to 4 May 2026 (18th edition). Polychromes runs a second LGBTQIA+ film festival, Zefestival, from 13 November to 1 December 2026.
- Nice So Fétiche, the fetish weekend run by the Évidence association, has its 10th edition from 19 to 22 November 2026.
- Nice Bear Week, run by Bear d'Azur, was held 9 to 12 April 2026 with the Mister Bear d'Azur election at L'Oméga Club. The Centre LGBTQIA+ also runs a Nice Rainbow Festival in the week around 17 May, and the GAIS sports club held the first Nice Gaymes weekend in September 2026.
- Eagle Bar, Rue Emmanuel Philibert: permanently closed.
- Malabar Station, 10 Rue Bonaparte: closed; the address is now Comptoir Central Électrique.
- Red Kafé, Rue Halévy: closed in 2024.
- Rendez-Vous Underwear, 6 Rue Francis Gallo: now Mon Amour Bar.
- Gossip Bar, 7 Rue Bonaparte: now Magnolia. Le Kult on Rue Benoît Bunico is now Le Klubber.
- Blue Boy, the old club on Rue Spinetta: no activity for about ten years.
- Coco Vin on Rue Droite now trades as Coco Bar.
- The airport (NCE) is about 7 km west of the centre. Tram line 2 runs from the terminals to Jean Médecin and the port in under 30 minutes; the airport ticket costs €10.
- Bars open late and clubs later: most clubs fill after midnight, and Le Klubber starts at 04:30.
- Small bars and the sauna are often cash-first; carry some euros.
- Nice bans going shirtless on the streets off the seafront in summer (€35 fine). Beachwear stays on the beach.
Where to stay
The centre (Rue Gubernatis, Place Masséna, the port end of Vieux Nice) puts you within walking distance of everything. Blue Angels Bed & Breakfast on Rue Assalit is a men-only gay B&B. The tourism office runs a Nice Rainbow label for hotels and bars that sign a welcome charter and train their staff; about 34 places to stay hold it, including the Hôtel Negresco, Mama Shelter Nice and Le Windsor, Jungle Art Hotel. More in our hotels guide.

Community and health
The Centre LGBTQIA+ Côte d'Azur on Rue Cathy Richeux is the hub for about 18 associations, including AGLAE, Polychromes, Front Runners Nice, the lesbian group Caram'elles and the GAIS sports club. For free HIV and STI testing, go to CeGIDD Nice (free sexual-health testing) on Avenue Baquis or the AIDES / SPOT Nice space on Rue Delille.
Safety
Nice is generally safe for LGBTQ+ visitors, but use the usual care with dating apps: in February 2025 a local activist was lured through Grindr and assaulted. Meet first dates in a bar, not a private address. Pickpocketing is the more common risk in Vieux Nice and on the tram in summer. Since March 2026 the mayor is Éric Ciotti, backed by the Rassemblement National; he has committed in writing to keeping the LGBTQIA+ centre's funding and the Queernaval, and the associations say they'll be watching.

Practical tips

A few words
Bonsoir (good evening), un verre (a drink), c'est un bar gay ? (is this a gay bar?), les fiertés (Pride). In Niçois, the local dialect you'll see on street signs, lou means "the", as in Lou Queernaval.
