Bar Code Secret 2 is one of the newer arrivals on Carrer d'Alacant, the busiest strip of the Old Town gay village, and it has made a fast impression - recent visitors rate it among the best drinking spots for gay men in town, crediting the value-first drink promotions and the effort put into the room. The formula is straightforward village-bar: cheap draft and mixed-drink deals, a sociable bar layout and a crowd that flows in from the neighbouring venues as the evening builds. It is a drinking bar rather than a show bar, and it competes on price and atmosphere rather than spectacle. At number 8 it anchors the lower end of the Alacant strip, with Mercury, Betty Boo's and the rest of the street a few doors up - an easy first or last stop on the standard crawl.
