O Provincetown Carnival é o maior evento do calendário gay de Provincetown — uma semana de festas temáticas, vernissages, eventos à fantasia e movimento de rua que culmina em uma parada fantasiada ao longo da Commercial Street, com 60 mil pessoas em uma cidade de 3.000. Acontece na terceira semana de agosto desde 1978. Cada ano tem um tema — Hollywood, super-heróis, realeza, fundo do mar — e os concorrentes, fantasias e carros alegóricos vão do engenhoso ao espetacular. A parada vai de East End a West End, cerca de três quilômetros, com espectadores em fileiras triplas ou quádruplas. A semana inclui tea dances oficiais no Boatslip, noites temáticas no A-House e no Crown & Anchor e a multiplicação geral de energia trazida por 60 mil visitantes a uma cidade construída para 3 mil. A semana exige hospedagem reservada com oito meses de antecedência; as diárias estão no pico anual. O evento é a melhor expressão do que Provincetown faz como nenhum outro lugar dos Estados Unidos.
