O Carnaval é a semana gay mais movimentada do verão em Provincetown: oito dias na terceira semana de agosto, construídos em torno de um tema de fantasia e um desfile. A Provincetown Business Guild o iniciou em 1978 como um evento de um dia para preencher uma semana tranquila de agosto, e agora ele toma conta da cidade inteira.
O desfile é gratuito e acontece na tarde de quinta-feira, começando por volta das 15h perto do Harbor Hotel e seguindo pela Commercial Street pelo centro até o West End. As pessoas colocam cadeiras na calçada cedo pela manhã para reservar um lugar. O resto da semana é de festas: a festa de abertura no Boatslip, o baile de fantasias no Crown & Anchor, "tea dances" e shows de drag, a maioria com ingressos ou couvert. As pousadas lotam com um ano de antecedência e muitas vezes exigem estadias mínimas, e as balsas de Boston ficam cheias.
A Guild estimou 150.000 pessoas na Commercial Street para o desfile de 2023, conforme relatado pelo Provincetown Independent. Este é o número dos organizadores para uma cidade com menos de 4.000 residentes permanentes, e não encontramos nenhuma contagem independente. O 48º Carnaval aconteceu de 15 a 22 de agosto de 2026 sob o tema Deep Sea Disco, com o desfile na quinta-feira, 20 de agosto. O tema e as datas de 2027 ainda não haviam sido anunciados quando verificamos.

Stake out a spot on Commercial Street by early afternoon on Thursday; the parade route fills fast.
Leave the car in Truro or at the airport lot and use the shuttle — the West End is closed to traffic during the parade.
