Still lifes, wide landscapes, and architectural details balance between abstraction and figuration in "Blues Rouge," Nuria Maria's new solo exhibition at Cadogan Gallery. The Dutch artist, raised in a family of artists and deeply marked by her travels to Italy, develops her own form of abstract impressionism aimed at capturing fleeting moments of contemporary life. According to the artist herself, the exhibition evokes the silent calm of a cool room in the heat of summer — warm blues in cool shadows, light in the windows, ancient stone in contrast with the new — a constant play between inside and outside, noise and silence, comfortable melancholy and desire for the new.
