About the event

Built entirely from the collection of the Centre Pompidou, "Computer Worlds" traces the history of digital creation from the 1950s to the present day, as part of the partnership between the French institution and the West Bund Museum in Shanghai. The group exhibition brings together about 180 works — digital and graphic pieces, installations, architectural models, and design objects — as well as archival documents, to investigate how artists, designers, and architects have adopted, subverted, and expanded technological tools since the emergence of cybernetics to recent developments in artificial intelligence and NFTs. The exhibition creates a dialogue between historical works from the museum's collection — by artists such as Fred Forest, Herbert Franke, Manfred Mohr, and Vera Molnar — and more recent acquisitions, by artists such as Cory Arcangel, Agnieszka Kurant, Neri Oxman, and Lu Yang, as well as rare archival documents that reveal the creative process of central figures in digital design and art, such as Molnar herself and Ettore Sottsass. The curation is by Philippe Bettinelli, Camille Lenglois, Olivier Zeitoun, and Victor Guégan, from the Centre Pompidou.
