Roy Lichtenstein: Like New at the Whitney Museum of American Art

Thirteen years after the artist's last retrospective, at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Whitney Museum presents "Like New," an exhibition organized by curator Meg Onli in partnership with conceptual artist Alex Da Corte, featuring 130 works by Roy Lichtenstein. Among the highlights is "Masterpiece" (1962), loaned by major collectors like Kenneth Griffin and Steve Cohen, as well as the first restaging of the artist's pop debut at the Leo Castelli Gallery in 1962. The exhibition title itself acknowledges the inevitable question of what there is still to discover in Lichtenstein: even though his cutouts, edits, and reframings of iconic images seemed revolutionary sixty years ago and are now almost second nature, the exhibition bets that there is always something new to see in his work.
