Waterfall' by Jennifer Guidi at Gagosian Paris
About the event

Gagosian Paris presents new works by Jennifer Guidi (Los Angeles, 1970) in which the artist abstracts the elemental structures of nature to imagine the convergence of forces that shape its features. A radiant sun or moon centered on each canvas illuminates coasts and beaches, gentle hills, mountain ranges, placid oceans, and waterfalls. The saturated palette — intense pinks, violets, oranges, yellows, blues, and greens — creates passages of land and coast that juxtapose with the whiteness of moving water. The canvases are developed as accumulations of discrete brushstrokes gathered into a whole, adapting the formal innovations of Seurat and Signac's Pointillism by dispersing countless colored dots across the canvas in search of chromatic intensity. The use of sand as a medium — Guidi's trademark — anchors the abstraction to tactile experiences of the natural world, from the light penetrating the landscape at dawn to the hazy atmospheric conditions of the West Coast.
