The Nearest Faraway Place' by Friedrich Kunath at Pace Gallery Seoul
About the event

Pace Gallery Seoul presents the first solo exhibition by Friedrich Kunath in Seoul and his second exhibition since joining Pace's program in 2025, featuring new paintings and drawings. Born in Germany and based between Los Angeles and Europe, Kunath divides his time between continents and inhabits the space between time and place — a condition that fuels his investigation into distance and displacement. In the works, roads disappear into curves, hills, and horizons; figures are silhouetted by the twilights they contemplate, drawing the viewer into themselves. The exhibition unfolds across two floors: on the lower floor, framed watercolors where feelings become ideas and ideas become expressions — including a semi-submerged colorful Porsche in a lagoon, in subtle tension between arrival and departure; on the upper floor, oil paintings illuminated by natural light from the terrace and a monumental skylight, with expansive landscapes where characters find their place in epic scenes. Kunath wants his paintings to 'sound like music' — emotional and raw, crossed by popular culture and art history.
