Hiroshi Sugimoto at Lisson Gallery

Half a century after his arrival in New York, the city that helped shape his artistic vision, Hiroshi Sugimoto returns to Lisson Gallery for his third solo exhibition at the gallery. The exhibition features new photographs from the "Diorama" series, produced in the last year from rare access to previously unexhibited dioramas from the American Museum of Natural History — the same body of work that first revealed the artist's ability to suspend time and reality in a single image. Alongside these photographs, new byōbu screens made of washi paper transform Sugimoto's images into luminous byōbu, uniting sculptural presence and immersive pictorial depth. Together, the two sets reaffirm the artist's mastery over perception, artifice, and the poetic limits of the photographic image.
