Janaina Tschäpe at Galerie Max Hetzler

Large-scale canvases such as “Meeresatem (Breathing the shore)” (2025) and “Into the blue” (2025), alongside the series “Conversation with the sea,” in watercolor and pastel on paper, make up this new exhibition by German-Brazilian artist Janaina Tschäpe at Galerie Max Hetzler. Based in New York, Tschäpe has spent decades building a multidisciplinary body of work spanning painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, and video, centered on abstract forms that evoke organic life and the natural world, with a strong inclination towards the aquatic universe — already present in the titles that give this exhibition its name.
