Louis Fratino at David Zwirner
About the event
David Zwirner presents Louis Fratino's first solo exhibition since the announcement of his representation by the gallery earlier this year, and the American artist's first show in London. Known for paintings, drawings, and sculptures depicting intimate personal experiences—often centered on contemporary queer life and the male body—Fratino combines a vibrant palette with expressive figuration that dialogues with his in-depth study of classical and modern art history and Western literature. Composed entirely of new paintings, the exhibition expands the artist's thematic repertoire, approaching moments of public and private life with the same intimacy that marks his gaze on the everyday and the extraordinary. The exhibition follows closely on the heels of "Fratino and Matisse: To See This Light Again" at the Baltimore Museum of Art, which places the two artists in dialogue, and after his participation in the Central Pavilion of the 60th Venice Biennale in 2024.
