Louise Giovanelli at White Cube

New paintings by British artist Louise Giovanelli, based in Manchester, arrive at White Cube Mason's Yard, following her recent touring exhibition “A Song of Ascents,” which opened at The Hepworth Wakefield in 2024, and her commission for the outdoor space of St Mary-le-Strand Church in London last year. Investigating the tension between representation and materiality, between figuration and abstraction, Giovanelli draws on contemporary and historical images, as well as sacred and profane motifs, to question the very act of looking — her paintings examine the physical qualities of paint, revealing its ability to retain, transmit, and complicate meaning.
