Robert Doisneau at Nuova Ala Palazzo dei Musei
About the event
About 130 black and white photographs, all from the photographer's own studio archive, make up this major retrospective of Robert Doisneau in Modena. Among the selected works is "Le baiser de l'Hôtel de Ville", one of the most iconic author portraits in the history of photography, in which a couple kisses in a Parisian square, oblivious to the traffic and passers-by around them. Alongside Henri Cartier-Bresson, Doisneau is considered one of the founders of French humanistic photography and street photojournalism, having dedicated his lens to the daily lives of men and women in Paris and its surroundings, captured in gestures and situations charged with emotion. Without chronological or genre limits, the exhibition embraces the entirety of his work, focusing on factories, bistro counters, doormen, ceremonies, jazz clubs, schools, and everyday street scenes.
