ABGLT — Associação Brasileira LGBT+

ABGLT — the Associação Brasileira de Lésbicas, Gays, Bissexuais, Travestis, Transexuais e Intersexos — is the largest LGBTQ+ advocacy organization in Latin America, founded in 1995 and headquartered in São Paulo. The organization brings together hundreds of member groups from across Brazil's 26 states and federal district, coordinating advocacy, legal challenges, policy engagement, and community support across the country's enormous geographical and social diversity. ABGLT has been at the centre of Brazil's most significant LGBTQ+ legal victories: the Supreme Court rulings on same-sex unions (2011), hate crime protections, and the legal recognition of gender identity. During the Bolsonaro years, ABGLT maintained its advocacy work and provided an organizational focus for the community's resistance to the government's hostile policies. The organization also coordinates Brazil's participation in international LGBTQ+ networks and represents Brazilian LGBTQ+ communities at the United Nations and other international forums.
