What a wonderful reprieve at the end of a two week journey. The hosts were spectacular, the room was beautiful and luxurious, the bed was cozy. The butterfly comforter was so soft and lovely. I loved getting to sit by the bay window and relax while listening to last night's thunderstorm. Thank you for such a lovely stay.
Gingerbread Manor B&B is a dream find for accommodations in Montreal. Where should I even begin, because so many elements of this Inn are wonderful and charming? Perhaps with the breakfasts, which are homemade, delicious, and full of the pleasant company of other guests and the generous hospitality of Ephraim and Yves. Or perhaps with the location, which is half a block from the gorgeous St. Louis Square and equally accessible to the vibrant Plateau neighborhood and to downtown Montreal. We were walking everywhere and, when needed, it was easy enough to take the Metro or an Uber. With the Cartier room we stayed in? It was sizable with a comfortable bed, a private, attached bathroom, a mini fridge, and lots of great storage. It truly was all fantastic. We paid a little extra to park our car in the garage in back. While backing in the first time was tricky, Ephraim helped us out and we had no problem getting in or out again. We will be recommending all our friends and loved ones to stay at Gingerbread Manor B&B on their trips to Montreal. Cities need more places like Gingerbread Manor B&B and fewer impersonal (and often illegal) Airbnbs.
While this is a beautifully renovated home in a great location, I can’t recommend it due to the behavior of one of the hosts, Ephraim. We did not enjoy his litany of racialized jokes at our first breakfast, but we were prepared to overlook it (and more firmly reject the jokes on day two if he started up again). A line was crossed, however, when he tried to gossip with us about other guests at the b&b who were of a religious minority. Although he didn’t say anything mean about them, other than pointing out their religion to us, the fact that the proprietor wanted to gossip to guests, about guests, based on their identity, was inappropriate. I expect a response dismissing us as sensitive snowflake Americans. But I’ll leave it for other potential guests to decide if they would be comfortable such comments. Ephraim’s husband was lovely, and we are grateful for the room upgrade. Truly wish this could be our new go-to in Montreal!
Charming and gracious hospitality from Efraim and Yves. Amazing location.
To start off, the location is gorgeous. Old manor that exceeded all expectations in terms of a gorgeous historic feel to it. The Sherbrooke area was beautiful and felt very safe with good access to the metro station for easy transportation. The manor has that beautiful old feel and look to it, so you have to expect some older features as well such as the staircase leading up to the top are narrow and winding. While beautiful, it is difficult to carry up large luggage, some of the steps feel slightly uneven, so beware. Other notes on the B&B would be the breakfast, we weren't overly wow'd by the breakfast, we felt it lacked flavour. The other note on breakfast would be the hosts, at first we found them quite pleasing however their commentary and jokes became a bit untasteful. The humour wasn't very fitting, and some of the jokes were clearly making the guests uncomfortable. We opted out from the breakfast for the rest of the stay. The rooms were comfortable and very clean, overall the stay felt safe and the rooms were nice.
