Casa Bianca Bed & Breakfast

As the saying goes you get what you pay for. We were looking for a central location to everything and found this B and B, which was more like an Air BnB. We expected some theme around gingerbread or cookies offered and there seems to be no relation; the expectation was based on the name of the housing. The hosts did not introduce themselves for three days, but were involved in breakfast. First morning we were treated to eggs with red sauce, some African dish, which left us hoping for more from the meal - we did not expect running eggs. The next morning was French toast on raisin bread, which was burnt and flavorless. So, we chose to eat at a cafe the las morning and that was wonderful. The breakfast has other options but nothing worthy to stay in for. The cooking is not vented so if you struggle with dinner smells I suggest other locations or get out early like us. Unfortunately, the smell carries to the floor above and in the bedroom; we were left to wash everything we brought with us to remove the odors. The hosts were not very welcoming, contained many dirty sex jokes and political jokes, and would insert themselves in conversations. We felt uncomfortable at times, being directly asked if our ice crampons were sex muzzle, more than once. Needless to say, we enjoyed the last morning away. The house itself won an award in 2010 for B and B and it seems that was the pinnacle of their efforts. From worn out furniture, to leaking ceilings in the bathroom, to mysteries hair in bathroom and bed, to nails and screws on front porch steps, to the floors not being vacuumed any day we were there, to general appearance of uncleanliness- we wish we had this information prior. We did do the toilet test and it had not been cleaned. Further, the host conversations were critical of places visited, no suggestions were made and they were critical of people using facilities in the house, as everything has a label on it, along with a price tag. We would have welcomed directions to use lights- appeared the house has some Google voice but we were not aware of usage. We heard hosts complaining of other guests messing with the switches. All in all, this venue is not for the warm at heart looking for a romantic getaway and welcoming environment. When staying away we recognize to bring concerns as they arise, but after observing the hosts, we were made aware that they were not responsive to feedback- only their words mattered. Deferred neglect is the state of the manor- not removing nails and screws should not be the guests’ responsibility.

Beautiful hotel, highly recommended!

We had a wonderful stay at Gingerbread Manor. The house is full of charm, and Ephraim and Yves were fantastic hosts who were warm, welcoming, and easy to spend time with. Breakfast was the highlight for all of us. The food and conversation were excellent, and we lingered well past the meal. The location was exactly what we needed, parking was easy and convenient, and they were incredibly accommodating throughout our stay. We will definitely visit again.

My partner and I stayed here for 6 nights while visiting Montréal for the first time and it was the perfect place to stay and experience the city! The rooms are comfortable, Ephraim and Yves are lovely hosts with unlimited dad jokes, breakfasts are filling, and the location cannot be beat. Would happily stay on a return trip to the city.

My wife and I are so glad we stayed at the Gingerbread Manor for 3 nights in Montreal. The home is historic and charming and was a nice change from the typical hotel. It’s in a great walkable neighborhood near parks and many restaurants. Most tourist attractions such as Old Montreal, Mount Royal, and Montreal Botanical Garden are within walking distance or easily reached by taxis or public transportation. The hosts at the Gingerbread Manor are very friendly and went out of their way to make sure we felt at home. Breakfast varied each morning and was always excellent. The hosts offered advice on nearby restaurants and enthusiastically looked up some possibilities during breakfast. We ended up going to a very nice French bistro within walking distance for dinner. We would not hesitate to stay at Gingerbread Manor again on our next visit to Montreal!

I had a wonderful two night stay at the gingerbread manor. The location was perfect to be able to access all aspects of the old city of Montreal. Although I did not use the metro, they are very close to it. The room and bathroom were spotless and exactly as described. Check in was simple and communication was extremely clear. Yves and Ephraim were wonderful hosts The breakfast was delicious and there were many options beyond the entree. They were happy to provide information as needed. Everything in the house is clearly marked in multiple languages and AC keeps it comfy. There are many nice touches to make it feel like home. I can’t imagine staying in a big corporate hotel when you can stay in a historic home with lovely hosts.

After staying at the Gingerbread Manor, I feel the quality of my stay didn't match the mostly 5-star reviews I saw on Google. The Frontenac room was large, clean and comfortable. I was hesitant about sharing a bathroom with other guests but generally, it rarely posed an issue. However, the ceiling creaked quite heavily and regularly, with the upstairs guests' every footstep. It was pretty loud and disruptive. I had to sleep with earplugs every night. The breakfasts were fairly disappointing. The prepared food was stingily portioned and pretty greasy. For example, they served what they called a Spanish "torta"(I think they meant Spanish tortilla) The egg was severely overcooked while the potato was almost raw. There were other food options like yogurt and cereal to supplement the disappointing hot breakfast but the reason I stay at bed and breakfasts is to enjoy a delicious home-cooked meal. This place just missed the mark for me. My final disappointment was with the B&B owners. Initially, I found their demeanor pleasantly quirky but it soon became overbearing and invasive. Some of the comments and jokes made by the owners at breakfast could be condescending or inappropriate. For example, they talked negatively about other guests staying at the B&B. And some of their jokes I felt were of poor taste and made myself and other guests feel uncomfortable. Overall, I felt there was a general lack of maturity and professionalism. The staff could benefit from some basic hospitality training.

2024 we had a great stay here. We had lovely conversations and delicious breakfast! Thank you so much again!

As long as you don't mind stairs, this is an excellent place. Friendly and knowledgeable hosts, comfortable and well equipped rooms and a fantastic central location. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

Absolutely loved my stay at this BnB! The house itself is beautiful and it is in a lovely neighborhood , right beside a nice park. Lots of shops and restaurants nearby, and very close to entertainment like the orchestra which is what I was there for. The hosts were incredibly friendly and helpful as this was my first time in Montreal. Breakfast was delicious and I looked forward to it every morning, it was also fun to meet and chat with the other guests during breakfast. My room was very comfortable and had everything I needed. Definitely will be booking here again if I get a chance to return to Montreal!

We greatly enjoyed our stay at the Gingerbread Manor! The hosts were very kind and accommodating. They are pleasant to talk to. The room and bathroom were very clean and the bed was comfortable. The location is a good walk to Downtown Montreal and Chinatown. We would definitely return and highly recommend that you stay here.
