IGLA+ Championships
About This Event
The IGLA+ Championships, held annually, bring together LGBTQ+ swimmers, divers, water polo players, and artistic swimmers from around the world. It started in 1987 as the West Coast Gay Swim League, with its first meet in San Diego. Each year, the championships move to a new city - in years when the Gay Games take place, the aquatics events at the Games replace the IGLA+ meet.
It's a sanctioned masters competition, with events in swimming, diving, water polo, artistic swimming, and open water. Clubs enter teams, and points are awarded towards team rankings, which are categorized by club size. You don't have to be a pro to participate - anyone can enter through a registered club.
In 2027, Montréal will host the championships from 31 July to 6 August. The local club, À Contre-courant, won the bid with a proposal that includes the aquatic complex at Parc Jean-Drapeau and open water events in the Olympic basin. It's timed to coincide with Fierté Montréal. The last championships took place in Washington DC from 31 May to 5 June 2025, at the Long Bridge Aquatic Center in Arlington. There was no meet in 2026, as the Gay Games in València took its place.
Berlin is set to host in 2028.
