About this place Steamworks Toronto

Steamworks Toronto is one of North America's best-equipped gay bathhouses and a key institution of the Church-Wellesley Village, located at 540 Church Street — directly on the main strip, steps from Woody's and Crews & Tangos. Part of the international Steamworks chain (which also operates in Chicago, Berlin, Vancouver, and other cities), the Toronto facility is among the chain's largest and most comprehensively equipped. The amenities include a heated pool, Finnish dry sauna, steam rooms, a fully equipped gym, multiple darkroom areas, and private cabins available by the hour or the session. The 24-hour operation makes Steamworks the consistent option for gay male visitors regardless of arrival time — whether arriving in the afternoon, late evening, or post-club at 4am. The Church Street location is a significant advantage for visitors staying in the Village: you can walk to and from multiple bars on the same strip. Steamworks Toronto has a history in the community that extends back through the city's earlier bathhouse culture; the current facility is modern and well-maintained, representing the professional end of the bathhouse spectrum.

The service here is completely rude and disgusting. Staff here seem to treat people very badly and unfairly if those people don’t look a certain way. Many people have complained about Steamworks Toronto, how filthy it is, and how rude and arrogant the customer service is here. And there are so many health and safety violations that I don’t even know where to begin.

Terrible! No attractive or young people go there! The one in Vancouver is a thousand times better. I won't be back.

Absolutely amazing experience! The staff are incredibly friendly, welcoming, and professional from the moment you walk in. They go above and beyond to make everyone feel comfortable and respected. The facilities are clean, well-maintained, and the atmosphere is fun, safe, and relaxing. You can really tell the team works hard to keep everything running smoothly. Every visit has been enjoyable thanks to their excellent customer service and attention to detail. I highly recommend Steamworks Baths to anyone looking for a great experience in Toronto. Thank you to the entire staff for your outstanding hospitality—I’ll definitely be coming back!

This is hands down the best sauna play space in the village—no question about it. Across all of North America, I’d rank it second only to their Chicago location. The venue is spacious, featuring two large sauna pools with powerful jets that feel incredibly relaxing. I’m a regular here and always have a great time. They offer lockers and a range of private rooms in different sizes, so you can choose what suits you best. I recommend arriving freshly cleaned and bringing your own gear to get the most out of your visit. If you’re a frequent guest, definitely follow their social media—they host a lot of special events. The best times to go are Friday and Saturday nights after 10 p.m., and Tuesday afternoons and evenings for Boyz Night. Sunday evenings are usually quieter since most people have work on Monday, so it’s not the ideal time to visit. The crowd here is very diverse, with people of all ages, body types, and ethnicities —everyone is generally friendly and respectful. One small tip: bring clean slippers for better comfort. Also, avoid booking a room near the central shower and bathroom area, as it can sometimes have an unpleasant smell. If management is reading this, I hope that area can be given a more thorough cleaning. All in all, I hope everyone has a fun and enjoyable night here.

Large, single-level sauna in the heart of the gay district. Quite busy. However, the atmosphere is rather impersonal and unwelcoming: metallic decor, blue lighting, dim lighting throughout, techno music, no bar, and no interaction with the staff... There's a large jacuzzi, but unfortunately, the water is far too hot; consequently, while it could hold 20 people, there are rarely more than one or two at a time, and people don't stay long because the water is too hot and the experience unpleasant. In Europe, the problem is the opposite: jacuzzi water is often lukewarm, especially since the war in Ukraine, because electricity has become expensive and sauna owners are cutting costs. But in Canada, energy must be cheaper, so sauna operators use excessively hot water; what's the point? I don't see it, it's not complicated to set the water to 38/39°, which is the ideal temperature for a jacuzzi...so why don't they do it?
