Vancouver Gay Pride
About This Event
Vancouver Pride is western Canada's biggest Pride, held at the end of July and start of August so the parade lands on the B.C. Day long weekend. It's run by the Vancouver Pride Society, a nonprofit, and centres on the West End and Davie Village, the city's gay neighbourhood, with rainbow crosswalks at Davie and Bute.
The week has parties, community events and a few ticketed nights, then the Sunday parade through downtown. Afterwards the action moves to the Davie Village Pride Festival, a free street festival on three blocks of Davie Street between Burrard and Jervis, plus Nelson Park, with stages, drag, DJs and vendors from mid-afternoon to 10 p.m.
The honest story of the last few years is money. Sponsors have pulled back across North America and Vancouver felt it. For 2025 the society cut the parade route to about half its old length, blaming the rising cost of security and city fees. In 2026 the city council approved a one-time grant of up to $75,000 after the society reported a sharp drop in sponsorship; city staff wrote that 2026 programming would otherwise have been at serious risk. The Society said the 2025 parade still drew over 100,000 people, and the city puts the event's economic impact at $30 million.
Practical notes: August is peak season, so rooms in the West End go early and expensive. Bring sunscreen for the parade and a layer for the evening. The bars on Davie get queues by late afternoon.
The 2026 edition ran July 25 to August 2, with the 48th parade on Sunday, August 2, from 1 to 3:30 p.m., followed by the Davie Village festival. It's usually the B.C. Day long weekend, but the 2027 dates hadn't been announced when we checked.

Practical Tips
Use the accessible viewing zones
The Vancouver Pride Society sets up four accessible viewing zones along the parade route — much calmer than the crush along Howe Street if you're bringing a wheelchair, kids or older family.
Stay for Davie Village
The Davie Street festival runs 2pm to 10pm on the same day as the parade, so keep the afternoon open — the block party in the gay village is the real heart of Vancouver Pride.
