Vancouver Queer Film Festival
About This Event
The Vancouver Queer Film Festival is run by Out On Screen, the nonprofit that also runs the Out in Schools programme. It held its 38th edition in 2026. It used to run in August, but in 2024 it moved to September to get newer titles from the festival circuit and to stop clashing with Vancouver Pride. Many older listings still give August.
Screenings are ticketed. After the in-person run, a week of online screenings is open to viewers anywhere in British Columbia. There are post-screening Q&As, and the festival pays out cash prizes to queer filmmakers: $62,350 in 2025.
The 2026 edition ran in cinemas 10 to 20 September and online 21 to 27 September, under the theme "A Seat at the Table". It showed 87 features and shorts, opening with a programme of seven shorts and closing with Gugu's World. For 2025, the festival's own partnership report counts 16,329 attendees across in-person and online. The 2027 dates hadn't been announced when we checked.

Practical Tips
Ticket Pricing
Individual tickets are on a sliding scale from $7-$19. Festival passes are available at $100 (accessible) or $195 (regular). Special presentations are $19, standard $17, access $12, and access+ $7. Free admission for Indigenous peoples and companions.
Airport Transfer
The Canada Line SkyTrain is the most efficient way to get from Vancouver International Airport (YVR) to downtown, taking about 26 minutes. Taxis and ride-sharing services are also options.
Venue Accessibility
Many venues offer accessible and gender-inclusive washrooms. Some events may be scent-reduced. Check the festival website for specific venue accessibility information.
