Gateway Hotel & Conference Center

Gateway Hotel is where Iowa State University hosts its official guests. It is one of the more mid to upper scale hotels in Ames. The rooms are generally well decorated, though the hotel and the concrete building is starting to show its age. The rooms are missing modern necessities, such as USB chargers, and the clunky old alarm clock appears as old as I am. The location is a bit out of the way, a few miles from campus and even further away from downtown. Not an issue if you have your own car. If not, CyRide comes about every 30 minutes.

Awesome place to stay in Iowa with reasonable price.

Clean rooms. Pool and hot tub were in good condition. There are two fairly fast EV chargers in the parking lot. Luggage carts were readily available. Would stay again.

Heated pool, HOT hot tub AND a sauna! Rooms were really nice, and quiet. Bed was very comfortable. Staff was outstanding! Breakfast at the IowaStater was the cherry on top.

Great front desk crew, great room, I’ll definitely be back

I am from Orlando, Florida and booked a 2 night stay for the Gateway Hotel & Conference Center for the 2025 Annual Meeting of the Iowa State Dairy Association (ISDA). Let me tell you---for the excellent service they gave me, their rates should be much higher! First I was able to ship numerous boxes ahead of time to the hotel. Meghan at the front desk could not have been nicer or more helpful coordinating their acceptance from UPS. Today when i picked up the boxes, I realized that I had forgotten to ship my Impact Driver from Florida. However, to the rescue was Phoenicia at the Front Desk. Miss Pho got Mike from Maintenance to loan me one and I was able to avert yet another crisis. If you are looking for EXCELLENT, 5 STAR SERVICE and Great Value in the people (Mike, Phoenicia and Meghan) and are looking for a nice hotel for your company's annual meeting, I strongly suggest you book with the Gateway Hotel & Conference Center at 2100 Green Hills Drive in Ames, Iowa 50014. If you are especially lucky, Meghan & Phoenicia will be working the front desk, ready to help you with your every need, just like they helped me! P.S. The Iowa Stater Restaurant on the 2nd floor deserves a mention too. I've had both Breakfast and Dinner there this trip, and both meals were Excellent. Great service from Lexi today and a young man last night, who i learned are both students at Iowa State. A great restaurant within walking distance of your room!

I stay here a couple of times a year. Usually a decent experience but one time the room didn't seem like it had been cleaned. Hairs and stains on the toilet and some dirt on the floor. Very nice fitness center with everything you need and plenty of space.

Don't stay here. This hotel is ok but their policies are not flexible and they penalize you for booking early. Rate changes are not proactively or reactively honored. Much better choices in Ames now. Try Courtyard or Springhill - no games.
