Motel 6 Marina, CA - Monterey

Stayed here for one night and it was clean, in a good location near the freeway and close to a lot of food options too.

This is a really great place to stay. The rate is fantastic, and it is close to many places of interest to me. The room, grounds, lobby, parking lot are immaculate. Checking in was a dream; the man who was there on Tuesday May 12 was kind, friendly, and helpful. My problem was with the reservations system. Tried to reserve by phone, and the rep did not communicate well. The transaction was taking a very long time, and when we were disconnected before finishing I gave up and went on line to reserve. The phone reservation was NOT completed and NOT confirmed; the on line reservation was. Upon my arrival, I was informed that TWO reservations were made in my name. The next day I was informed by my bank that my card was declined (!) due to an incorrect expiration date - twice (!!) Both instances were from Motel 6, but in different locations: one in California, one in Arizona. The last night of my stay was rough - not the Motel's fault - I just didn't sleep well. Around 5 a.m., I called the reservation system again, and extended my stay for one more night so I could sleep longer and not worry about the checkout time. The staff did NOT get that information, and housekeeping started knocking at my door while I was trying to get some rest (not their fault, and I was indisposed or I'd have answered the door. By the time I could get to the door they were gone.) The Motel manager came to my door while I was getting ready to leave, around noon. She was not happy, and I explained to her that I'd extended my stay 7 hours earlier. She allowed me to finish getting ready, saying I could come to the office when I was, but did not apologize for the error. She was not in the office when I went there about 20 minutes later, and the person at the desk also did not apologize for the error. I stayed less than 3 hours over, and paid for a full 24 hours. I did not expect them to comp some of that back to me, but it would have been nice - especially due to the errors in communication between the motel and their reservation system, which resulted in my being disturbed by the staff several times while trying to rest. Not surprising: my bank sent TWO MORE "your card was declined" messages from a Motel 6 in Columbus (OH? IN? CO? NY? KY?) - I was in Calfornia, and there is no Columbus in CA. This is highly concerning, because I've had to cancel my card - a whole 'nother can of worms. Bottom line: would I stay here again? Yes. But not any time soon, not without taking names and scrutinizing my bank statements, and only checking in in person!

Rooms are extremely small. They smell very bad. Like something died near by. Bathrooms were dirty.

Friendly and helpful staff. When there was a need, they were right there to lend a hand.

We stayed at this Motel 6 over the weekend and had a great experience. The room felt clean and updated, with what looked like newer flooring. The bed was very comfortable, and the sheets were fresh and clean, which made a big difference after a long day. This location stood out in a few extra ways. The comforter was especially inviting and added a nice pop of color to the room, making it feel more welcoming. The grounds were also well maintained, which gave a good first impression when we arrived. The front desk staff were friendly and easy to work with, which always makes the stay smoother. Overall, we really enjoyed our time here and would absolutely stay again.
