About this place Oak Grove Lake Park

Oak Grove Lake Park is a 157-acre public city park in Chesapeake with a lake, a paved loop trail of about 1.5 miles, and wooded areas. It has a long-standing, informal reputation on gay cruising directories as a daytime meeting spot, particularly around the parking lot and the trails. This is an unofficial use of an ordinary public park, not a sanctioned venue: it is family-frequented, patrolled by City of Chesapeake park staff, and subject to Virginia public-decency law, so discretion and respect for other park users are essential. The park keeps standard daylight hours (roughly dawn to dusk). Anyone visiting should be aware of the legal limits on public activity and prioritize personal safety.

First time there. Very good experience and it's near the house. Now I don't have to drive all the way to Mt Trashmore

It's a beautiful park! The trees, the natural pathways, the decks... it's a beautiful place to walk, run, bike, enjoy lunch, walk the dog, let the kiddos play... or just to breathe when life is overwhelming. Highly recommend.

Nice spot to sit and watch the lake. Runners and bikers glore........way more energy than I could have. I enjoyed sitting in the shade of a pavilion and read in the natural surroundings. Porta potties were out of toilet paper, and needed to be cleaned, but what one doesn't? Overall well worth it.

Nice running/walking loop, with workout stations. Plenty of locations to fish in the lake. Parking can be a challenge on the weekends. There's a parking lot across from the entrance.

I come and walk/jog on this trail pretty often when I want to workout or clear my head. The viewpoints they have over the lake is so dope, definitely worth it.

Amazing for beginner runners with it being 1.5 miles all around or just anyone who wants to walk and enjoy the scenery. Fishing is also decent too! Highly recommend.

Oak Grove Lake Park in Chesapeake, VA is absolutely gorgeous in a sunny day in the spring season. There's a trail for walkers to enjoy the lake view. On the side are wooden platforms for fishing. Highly recommend this park if you're in the area l.

Went here on our couples trip it’s very quiet and a nice view of a beautiful lake. Make sure you wear tennis shoes so you can walk the trail.

This is by fair the best Park in the Hampton Roads Area based on its Greenery and Lake combination, attached to a superb running trail. Family fun, running and exercise compatibility, you can even meditate near the water. Fishing locations and all. My fave is the bike trail options. Good stuff

The very wide trails make it easy to walk as a group and they are perfectly maintained. The last visit was marred by visiting track teams which spread out across the center of the trail, forcing all of us to squeeze over to the side. During our single circuit (2 miles plus) of the lake we encountered this group of ill mannered young people at least 3 times. It's a great place to walk your dog if they are well socialized to strollers, runners, and lots of other wild and excited dogs. I don't bring my dogs here, there are better places like the little-used Bells Mill trails behind city hall. Portions of the trail are shaded and it is just off 64, barely a mile from Lowe's. Lots of fast food options close to freeway, wonderful locally owned places like Cutlass Grille and Judy's just a bit further.

I just moved to Chesapeake and I’ve been to the park 3 times in the first week. The pups love the trail and it’s the perfect distance for us as we live about half mile from the trail.

Oak Grove is a nice lake to walk/run around during the pandemic. The path is wide enough to keep your distance. There are plenty of places to rest or look out on the lake as well. If you are looking for some outdoor activity i highly recommend.

Oak grove is a nice shaded park with a lake. It has a children's play area with porta potties. There are tables and outlook areas to see the lake. It has many trees that surrounds the walking area.
