The Inn on Ferry Street

We stayed here for our wedding and could not have been more thrilled with how everything turned out. The rooms are roomy and decorated beautifully, light is stunning, location is perfect! If thinking about staying here - DO IT! One last thing, Desiree, is absolutely AMAZING and helped everything from check in to check out seamless and perfect! Thank you Desiree and Inn on Ferry Street! We can’t wait to come back!

We had a lovely stay and would absolutely stay again. I loved the record players and records available for guests to use in common areas. The Inn is a set of 4 separate historic Victorian homes and a carriage home located on a relatively quiet street right near the Q line street car and Institute of Art. We will return!

I stayed at the Inn on Ferry Street four days; Has become one of my favorite places to stay anywhere. Unique charm of old world craftsmanship. I have a tier two Purple Mattress at home. The mattress in my room at the Inn was even more comfortable. The living rooms of each home in the row provided a very nice and interesting venue of options to read a book. The location is unbeatable for visiting the Detroit Institute of Art and access to the light rail to go center city. The neighborhood of the Inn seemed very safe.

We were in the fourth ‘house/building’. Beautiful building, great location, comfortable bed - ought to be ***** right? Well … a complete lack of heating in the bathroom and worse, no source of hot drinks in the room mean this falls to just ***. Almost worse than the lack of coffee/tea making in the room is that they expect you to not just leave your room for hot water/tea/coffee … but go outside to another of the four ‘houses’. It could be fabulous.

Beautiful buildings, bedrooms and shared areas. Staff helpful. No hot water in the rooms so had to travel two floors to get coffee, but to another building to use a kettle for tea. Fortunately we travelled with thermos flasks so could stock up the night before. Upgrade are coming, which is good news, as there are some things that need doing. We travelled from the UK, none of the sockets could cope with the weight of a travel adaptor, so had to build a support (handbag and suitcase worked well) soon we could charge our phones. Booked a room with a bath. Had to get a plug delivered. Gave up on the bath as the water pressure was so low that we checked out before it was full. Currently a bit overpriced for what you get but has the potential to be amazing.

If you think its a large historic mansion that has been updated you would be wrong. Its just an old dirty house. The outside stairs are steep and down right dangerous in the rain, there is no ramp. Inside - no elevator. Drag your luggage up three flights of narrow steep steps and no staff is willing to help you. There is not even a dumb-waiter lift commonly found in historic homes. The room door uses a janky key lock- its not safe. The water takes forever to heat up and there is no hair dryer.

Fantastic hotel, loved my time

All I can say is wow! We travel a lot and by all means we want a comfortable room and convenient location but we normally don't spend much time in our hotel or air bnb while on vacation. This Victorian time capsule absolutely brings a vibe that makes you want to explore around and enjoy the ammenties. So much period esque decor to go with the well maintained home makes you feel like you're back at great grandma's for a holiday gathering. We spent an evening spinning different vintage albums in the listening area, reading and chatting in the commons room, and enjoying the complimentary pastries from our bedroom. Off-street free parking is hard to find in a busy metropolitan location but they had it. The staff was so friendly and accommodating as well.. and it's genuine.. you can tell they care about the facility. We absolutely will be back for another visit and would recommend to anyone.

I stayed here in late November. We met up with some friends for a night out in Detroit. The location was good and the room was mid. Space heaters were the only source of heat in our room. I thought the room was rather clean. I would book again!

I stayed here for one night, it was a separate building from the main and it was on the fourth floor. I inquired of breakfast and because it was on a week day, they didn’t serve anything. They claimed that they did pastries on the weekend. Went to room and they were missing hand soap and an extra roll of toilet paper for the bathroom. Also, one of the dresser’s shelves was just randomly not there. i would much rather stay at a hotel next time, nothing stood out to me as being unique.

Very nice building and location. The staff was less than helpful.

We booked this in August for the late December. One of the amenities we look for is a free continental breakfast, which this place had and was highly rated. We received an email FOUR days before check in stating that they are no longer serving breakfast. Not giving us enough time to find somewhere else to stay without paying a fortune. Pros: -Every member of the staff we interacted with was really nice! -Room was a comfortable temperature and stayed that way during the duration of our stay. -Water cooler in entryway that can do hot or cold. Plus a Keurig. -Great water pressure as long as you're an early bird. Otherwise the water pressure and temperature fluctuates by quite a bit. -Great location! 10-15 minutes (at most) away from a majority of the places we visited. -Quiet street, little to no road noise with only rare sirens being heard. Cons: -The house we stayed in did not have a door directly from the parking lot. You had to walk with all your luggage up the side of the house and use a walkway to get to the front door. The walkaway to the house we stayed in wasn't a solid path and was very uneven. As pictured. -Stains on the carpet everywhere. As pictured. -The room we stayed in was on the 1st floor and directly to the right as soon as you stepped in to the entry way. The crack under the double doors to our room is huge. Picture taken from inside our room. -Noise carries throughout the building. -The thinnest toilet paper and tissues you will ever use. -The mattress was very uneven and very soft (far from firm). -There were 3 outlets in the room (plus one in the bathroom) which it's an old building, fine. However, of the available ones not used for lamps, only the one furthest away from the bed was not so worn that a standard phone charger would not fall out of the socket. Overall I would not recommend this place.

Detroit is my home town and when we travel here we typically stay at the Inn on Ferry Street. We love the location and the hearty breakfast. Much to our surprise this weekend when we excitedly came down for breakfast we found a few picked over muffins and 3 containers of yogurt. No scrambled eggs, juice, quiche or fresh fruit and no smiling cook. I asked if we were late to breakfast (we arrived at 8:45am) or whether this was the extent of it. I was told that was the extent of breakfast. We paid more than the previous times we stayed here but received less....and we had difficulty heating the room even with the electric heater. It costs more to stay on the weekends yet the servuce was significantly lacking. Disappointed is not a strong enough word...but disappointed we are.
