About this place The Pavilion

The Pavilion is the main dance club on the harbour at Fire Island Pines, a car-free gay beach community off Long Island. It's best known for High Tea, the late-afternoon dance party that people move on to after Low Tea at the Blue Whale next door. Later at night it runs as a club with DJs. Like the rest of the Pines, it's seasonal. Expect it to be open on summer weekends, roughly from Memorial Day to Labor Day: from the afternoon until 4am on Fridays and Saturdays, with an earlier close on Sundays. Most visitors arrive by ferry from Sayville.

Surprised how nice yet crowded. As predicted, tide for low tea comes in around 6 and leaves at 8. Old people schedule but for the very young. Look for blond bartender, lovely southern.

The bartender swore up and down he sold me a double vodka mixer at tea. It didn't even taste like a single. "You only need one drink," he said. All to the tune of $60. Can you say ripoff? No wonder the crowd at tea is light.
