About this place The Canteen

The Canteen is a casual food-and-drink counter on the harbor walk in Fire Island Pines, the gay resort community on the barrier island off Long Island. It sits among the waterfront businesses near the ferry landing, so it gets used as a quick stop for a bite or a drink between the beach, the boat and the evening bars. Like everything in the Pines it runs on a seasonal calendar and is busiest on summer weekends. Google reviews are mixed (3.2 from about 100 ratings), so treat it as a convenient option rather than a destination, and check whether it's open before planning around it outside peak season.

Well, the food takes AGES and isn’t great. Also the bathrooms are duck taped shut which is just kind of weird? Honestly, if you’re in a hurry just go get a slice of pizza. Like a monet. Cute from a distance, a mess up close.

Casual eatery perfectly situated within steps of Fire Island Pines ferry terminal. Smoked Salmon Bagel (though the bagel could have been crispier) was excellent, generously smeared and topped with micro-greens and the cutest miniature pickled peppers. Ample indoor and outdoor patio seating. Friendly counter staff.
