About this place The Big Coconut Guesthouse

Located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, this gay guesthouse provides accommodations in one of the Southeast's most established LGBTQ+ destinations. Fort Lauderdale has long been a welcoming hub for queer travelers, with a lively scene centered around the beachfront and nearby neighborhoods. Staying at an LGBTQ+-focused property means you can expect a genuinely welcoming atmosphere where staff understand the needs and interests of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender guests. The venue is situated at 1021 NE 13th Ave, placing you within easy reach of Fort Lauderdale's gay-friendly restaurants, bars, shops, and beaches. As a guesthouse rather than a large resort, you can anticipate a more intimate, personalized experience. This type of accommodation typically offers a home-away-from-home feel, often with common areas where guests connect, and usually more affordable rates than larger hotels while maintaining quality service and LGBTQ+-affirming hospitality. Whether you're visiting Fort Lauderdale for a weekend getaway, a longer vacation, or to experience the city's Pride events and year-round gay scene, this guesthouse provides a safe, comfortable base. For more details about specific amenities, room types, and current offerings, you can visit their website at http://thebigcoconutguesthouse.com/. This was a first time for us. Our friends have been staying here for a few years and talked us in to trying it out. We had a really great time. Our plan was to just hang out and meet others and relax. We met so many new friends and guys that were so fun and friendly. We had a glitch with the hot water heater not working the first day, but they quickly fixed that issue and even had to replace the entire water heater the 3rd day we were here but we hardly noticed it. The entire staff are INCREDIBLY helpful and friendly. We loved all of them - Tom, Jim, Lloyd and the owner Dave, as well as the loveable "Peanut" (their Amazon parrot). There is a light breakfast served and they provide coffee, some pastries, juice and water. On Friday and Saturday from 5-6, there is a happy hour where they provide drinks and cocktails for free for the guests. That is a great time to hang out at the pool and get to know other guys. That was a lot of fun. The room was very comfortable and had plenty of space with extra chairs, night stands, a desk and a chest of drawers. The mattress was perfect and the linens were soft and made the bed very comfortable. Our room (#14 King Studio) had a full kitchen with full sized refrigerator, oven and stove and a microwave. The following items you do not have to buy or bring from home: 1. Umbrellas for you to use in your room. 2. Sunscreen and after-sun products. 3. Chilled bottled water. 4. Ice. 5. Beach chairs The bathrooms are very basic, but they do provide lotion, shampoo and bar soap. We will definitely be back --we loved The Big Coconut. We appreciate them making our vacation extra special.

I really enjoyed staying here! It was calm and relaxing with very friendly and helpful staff. It's welcoming to all ages and body types. I like the scale of just 2 floors with about 16 rooms total surrounding the landscaped patio courtyard: it reminds me of old Fort Lauderdale when things weren't as overdeveloped. If you want a sleek, modern high-rise, this is not the place for you, but if you want a friendly, relaxing retreat, check it out. They have a continental breakfast in the mornings and happy hours Friday and Saturday early evenings. You can choose to socialize with the other guests on the patio or around the pool, but you can also have privacy if you like. I liked chatting with all the other guests and then heading out to do my thing. It's also centrally located for exploring Fort Lauderdale, with good parking. Thanks to all the friendly folks who work and visit there!

It was a great experience and would definitely return. Staff is friendly, the room was perfect. Now if you’re looking for fancy, don’t go. It’s more of people who do not have high expectations and just want to relax and enjoy the pool and courtyard.

It’s very private and the staff is welcoming and accommodating. Great place to chill with their private pool.

I loved this place, the staff was very welcoming and accommodating. The room was great and comfortable. The location was great and the men that stayed here seemed to be repeats which says a lot about The Big Coconut. We will definitely be staying here again and again.

Fantastic stay for our first time visiting! Staff were amazing, tons of amenities included: room was large and clean and fully-stocked, light breakfast and daily happy hour were included, we were able to park right out front, there's a gated/keyed entrance for extra security, and you're a quick Uber away from all of the action in the heart of Wilton Manors. We enjoyed meeting new friends that were other guests, and the staff really goes the extra mile to provide a great stay. Pool was wonderful - heated and clean! Also a Publix right around the corner. LOVED our stay here and will definitely be back!

The staff, especially Tom “Hazel” and Jim, went above and beyond to make our stay an amazing one! The exemplary service level is a real differentiator for this place.
