About this place The Grand Resort & Spa

The Grand Resort & Spa represents the luxury end of Fort Lauderdale's gay resort market — a beachfront property on N Birch Road that offers the combination of premium accommodation, full resort facilities, and the explicitly gay environment that distinguished the Fort Lauderdale beach resort scene from its earliest days. The property sits between the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean, with direct access to Fort Lauderdale beach — a location that is both geographically privileged and symbolically important given the history of the gay beach culture that developed along this stretch of coastline. The resort facilities include multiple pools, a full-service spa, clothing-optional sunbathing areas, and the range of amenities expected at the luxury price point. The accommodation runs from rooms to suites. The Grand has been a destination for gay travellers from across the US and internationally for decades; the November-to-April season sees the property operating at or near capacity with a guest mix heavily weighted toward the snowbird demographic — longer-stay visitors from northern US cities and Canada who treat the Grand as a base for winter seasons rather than a short-break hotel. For visitors seeking the full luxury gay resort experience in Fort Lauderdale, the Grand is the primary option.

We are continually impressed with The Grand, especially since they’ve merged properties. Service and amenities are top notch. Love the water stations, ice machines and the complimentary breakfast! Also, a special thank you to Matthew Gray for being such a wonderful host to your guests! He is a gem and knows how to take care of the customer. 5 star rating !

After roughly 15 years of visits, I can say this place has steadily evolved in the right direction. The new ownership has invested thoughtfully in the property, and the improvements genuinely show — the grounds feel more polished, the atmosphere more refined, and the overall experience better than ever. What continues to set this hotel apart is the social environment: a welcoming, diverse crowd of interesting, accomplished men from all over, without pretension or attitude. The pools and hot tubs are consistently clean and well maintained, and the landscaping creates a relaxed, tropical atmosphere that still feels rare in Florida hospitality. It’s difficult for a property to improve while retaining its character, but this one has managed exactly that. A longtime favorite for good reason.

This is absolutely the worst hotel my husband and I have been to. They were very very rude at the front desk. The ice machines were broken on serval floors. The room was absolutely horrible. They had extension cords on the sink that looked horrible. There's no phone/ clock in the room. The shower and toilet horrible. Also we were not told about a parking pass by the very rude front desk employee. And we paid online and were not told about the extra 25 dollars for service the employee told us. The sheets had stains on them aa well. And the door locks were broken on the door so we couldn't lock our room.

Ok I stopped by to get a massage. And Robert was awesome. Professional, thorough. The spa was well appointed and then you can stay on property if you got a spa service. I checked out the jacuzzis and they were great. Place was clean and folks were nice.

We stayed at The Grand as a group of four—one in a standard room and three in a two-bedroom suite. The suite was spacious and nicely decorated but poorly lit. The kitchen was limited (mini fridge only), and despite the suite size, it was stocked for just two people. The bathroom was small with little storage. Arrival was confusing, as GPS led us to the spa entrance. The main lobby was יפה and staff were friendly, but we were only given a map instead of a proper orientation. The beds were comfortable, but maintenance issues stood out: a missing closet door, water-damaged door frame, and a door that wouldn’t latch properly. Our friend’s room lacked a closet rod entirely. The property has strong potential—great courtyards, pools, and an excellent gym. However, poolside amenities like towels were only stocked the first day. A pool party was under-promoted, though moving the bar poolside worked well. Billing at the bar felt off, with tips added before payment. The café looked nice but was overpriced for the quality. Breakfast was okay, though pastries were stale. After the pool party, the area remained dirty, with cloudy water and no cleanup. Housekeeping was rushed and incomplete, and service overall felt lacking—staff were mostly disengaged. Music and speaker issues also detracted from the experience. While the property has a solid foundation, poor execution, weak service, and maintenance issues made it feel overpriced. Its location, about 15 minutes from Wilton Manors, adds to the drawback. With better upkeep, service, and a more central social atmosphere, it could improve—but for now, we wouldn’t recommend it.

Our third stay at The Grand Resort & Spa has been our best to date! The entire team were super welcoming and friendly—everyone offering to assist proactively with anything we needed. We stayed in a newly renovated room in the Alcazar building which was clean, modern and spacious! The rain shower was certainly a highlight. For lunch, we enjoyed sandwiches at the cafe, and Robert at the spa was a must book! Overall, we love the fun and social atmosphere here and definitely will be back!
