Gay Bars in Hollywood, Florida: The Honest Guide

Hollywood is a relaxed beach city on Florida's Gold Coast, tucked between Fort Lauderdale to the north and Miami to the south. It is genuinely LGBTQ+-friendly, but it is not a nightlife destination in its own right: Hollywood has no dedicated gay bars, clubs or bathhouses. If you are looking for a gay bar crawl, the good news is that one of the most concentrated gay scenes in the United States is only a short drive away.

Gay-friendly spots in Hollywood

Within Hollywood itself, a couple of easygoing, gay-friendly neighborhood bars welcome a mixed crowd:

    • Cloud 9 Lounge (7126 Stirling Road) - a laid-back karaoke bar and lounge that bills itself as lesbian-friendly and draws a real mix of regulars.
    • Octopus Garden (1942 Hollywood Boulevard) - a long-running, quirky pirate-themed dive bar with karaoke and go-go nights that has welcomed a gay, straight, bi and trans crowd for over two decades.

Both are friendly rather than dedicated gay venues, so set your expectations accordingly - they are fun local hangs, not a gay nightlife district.

Where the real gay nightlife is: Wilton Manors

For gay bars and clubs, head about 10 to 15 minutes north to Wilton Manors, whose main strip, Wilton Drive ("The Drive"), is lined with LGBTQ+ venues. Longtime favorites include Hunters, Rosie's Bar & Grill and Georgie's Alibi Monkey Bar, alongside cocktail lounges, dance clubs and drag shows. Neighboring Fort Lauderdale adds still more bars, saunas and a lively beach scene, and Miami and Miami Beach are an easy trip to the south.

Pride and community

Hollywood punches above its weight on community. The Hollywood LGBTQ+ Council (founded 2019) produces My Hollywood Pride, a free festival at ArtsPark at Young Circle in downtown Hollywood held in late January - one of the first Prides of the year in the country. The largest regional celebration is Stonewall Pride in Wilton Manors each June.

Practical tips

Base yourself on Hollywood Beach for the sand and the Broadwalk, then drive or grab a rideshare up to Wilton Manors for a night out - it is quick and easy. Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) is only about 15 minutes away. If nightlife is your main priority, consider staying in Wilton Manors or Fort Lauderdale and visiting Hollywood for the beach.
