As an interfaith wedding rabbi and officiant, I have had the privilege of celebrating weddings in extraordinary venues around the world. What made Hotel ICON so memorable was the feeling that the celebration was taking place within a piece of Houston's history. From the moment guests arrived, there was a sense of grandeur and permanence that is increasingly rare. Originally constructed in 1912 as the Union National Bank Building, the property was designed during an era when architecture was intended to inspire confidence, optimism, and civic pride. More than a century later, those qualities continue to shape the experience of every event held there. As someone who spends a great deal of time observing how a venue shapes a wedding experience, I appreciated the way Hotel ICON blends historic character with modern hospitality. The building's architectural details, soaring spaces, elegant windows, and beautifully restored interiors create an atmosphere that feels timeless without ever feeling outdated. It is a venue with a genuine sense of place and personality. What I remember most was the sense of occasion. Weddings naturally feel important, but Hotel ICON elevates that feeling. Whether gathering in the Aventine Ballroom, celebrating with family and friends throughout the hotel, or simply admiring the historic surroundings, guests immediately recognize that they are somewhere special. The setting lends a sense of significance to every moment. The downtown Houston location adds another dimension to the experience. The energy of the city surrounds the property, yet once inside, guests are immersed in a world of architectural beauty and historic elegance. The result is a wedding that feels connected both to Houston's past and its vibrant present. The staff was professional, attentive, and a pleasure to work with throughout the celebration. Their experience coordinating weddings and special events was evident in every interaction, allowing the couple and their guests to enjoy the day with confidence and ease. I would gladly recommend Hotel ICON to any couple looking for a wedding venue that combines historic architecture, exceptional hospitality, and an unmistakable sense of Houston. It is one of those rare places where the building itself becomes part of the story, creating a celebration that feels both elegant and enduring. Long after the wedding is over, guests remember not only the event itself, but the remarkable place where it was held.

This is an older hotel, so you get some of the nostalgia of it being an older hotel with some of the niceties of a nicer hotel. It has a bar and restaurant on site with room service. There is no free breakfast, but they do serve breakfast. The breakfast buffet is $25 per person(we found coupons in the bible though so look there if you visit). The good, the service was all good, the food at Line & Lariat was good(we only had breakfast) and the bartender was nice and the drinks were good. The bed was really comfortable, I usually have issues sleeping in hotels and I slept great. The bad, maybe it's just because it's an older hotel, but for me it had a weird smell. The decorations are really outdated and really need some renovations. Multiple parts of our hotel room needed service, there was peeling wall paper in a couple spots, the bath tub had a spray handle that didn't work, there was no soap for the bathtub and the soap in the shower was connected to the wall, so in order to take a bath you had to either ask for more soap or squirt it in your hand and take it to the bath. The hotel is right by the metro rail, so you hear that constantly(although not a big deal).

Tia at the front desk is superb! She is always on point and goes above and beyond to make sure your stay is everything you hope for. The entire front desk staff is great but Tia always goes above and beyond!

Bar service was horrible. There was a special Houston main street opening event and their staff was not prepared for it at all. They were advertised as a participating location, and just to order 2 drinks and 1 appetizer took 45 minutes. They skipped over our que in line to get orders for a wedding group and never welcomed or acknowledged us as we waited. The staff seemed disorganized and chaotic throughout our extended visit and were not ready for a pre FIFA event.
