Staff are the highlight of the property. All were professional and truly nice/friendly. Property is very well cared for; rooms pretty and functional; happy hour and breakfast are basic but good and well run.

I would like to formally document what happened at Alexander’s Guesthouse in Key West. There was an issue regarding payment for the last two nights of my stay. I asked if it was possible to cancel those nights, and I was told no. I was then informed that until payment was made, all of my luggage and personal belongings — including my identification and important documents — would be withheld. I was not even given the opportunity to return to the room to retrieve my essentials, and I was effectively left outside in pajamas, without access to my wallet, documents, or any practical way to resolve the payment immediately from my phone. At no point did I refuse to pay or avoid resolving the situation. I was honest, transparent, and trying to cooperate in good faith, expecting the same level of cooperation in return. Instead, I felt treated with suspicion and hostility throughout the entire situation. The staff member working at the front desk — who appeared to possibly be the owner — behaved in a way that felt extremely unprofessional and uncomfortable. Despite the extreme heat outside, she repeatedly came outside under the pretext of “checking the bicycles,” specifically in the exact area where I was standing, in a way that felt more like monitoring or intimidation than normal staff behavior. I understand hotels have policies regarding unpaid balances, but the way this situation was handled was deeply humiliating, distressing, and lacking basic human understanding.

It is difficult to search through all the listings to decide on a spot, so I will share my criteria that made Alexander's Guesthouse my top choice. King size bed, en suite bathroom, pool on property, and adult exclusive. This property is very well kept and everyone I encountered (including guests) were so welcoming. We walked or biked around with no issues! I hadn't ridden a bike in a decade and it's true, you dont forget! Breakfast was great, checkout was smooth, and the area was relaxed.
