About this place Alexander's Guest House

Alexander's Guest House is a welcoming, gay-friendly boutique property nestled in the heart of Key West's historic residential district. Operating as a lush Caribbean-style compound, the guest house has long catered to LGBTQ+ travelers seeking a relaxed, intimate atmosphere away from larger resort-style accommodations. The property strikes a balance between sociable and serene, drawing a loyal mix of gay male couples, solo travelers, and groups who want a comfortable base with genuine community feeling. The tropical setting, mature foliage, and unhurried pace give the place a distinctly laid-back character that fits seamlessly into the Key West ethos of tolerance and celebration. The property is spread across a compound of historic Conch-style buildings surrounded by lush tropical gardens. Accommodations include a range of room types and configurations suited to different group sizes and budgets, with many rooms featuring private or shared outdoor access that connects guests to the garden setting. The centerpiece of the outdoor space is a swimming pool where guests frequently gather, complemented by a hot tub for evening relaxation. The grounds are clothing-optional in designated outdoor areas, a policy consistent with many gay guesthouses in Key West, and the property caters primarily to gay men, though it welcomes LGBTQ+ travelers broadly. Continental breakfast is typically included or available on-site, and the communal areas encourage the easy socializing that makes smaller guesthouses a preferred choice for travelers who want more than a hotel stay. Alexander's Guest House sits on Fleming Street, one of Key West's most characterful residential corridors, placing guests within easy walking distance of the island's vibrant gay scene. The Duval Street strip, which anchors Key West's nightlife and entertainment, is only a short stroll away and is home to a concentration of gay bars, clubs, and venues that have made the island one of the most celebrated LGBTQ+ destinations in the United States. The area around Duval and its surrounding streets — including Petronia Street and Appelrouth Lane — contains many of the island's most established gay nightlife spots. Higgs Beach and its adjacent Tea by the Sea area have historically served as a popular gathering point for the gay community, and the beach is reachable on foot or by bicycle. The compact, walkable nature of Key West means that most points of interest, restaurants, galleries, and shops are accessible without a car, and the guest house's central location makes it especially convenient for guests who want to move freely between the pool and the street-level action. The best time to visit Alexander's Guest House largely depends on what kind of experience a traveler is seeking. Key West enjoys a warm subtropical climate year-round, but the peak season runs from roughly mid-December through April, when temperatures are pleasantly mild and snowbirds from across North America descend on the island. Fantasy Fest, held each October, is one of Key West's most famous events — a ten-day festival with a distinctly adult and body-positive character that draws enormous crowds including many LGBTQ+ revelers. Gay travelers specifically tend to plan visits around Pridefest, which typically takes place in June, and around the various themed weeks hosted throughout the year that attract gay men in particular, including bear-oriented events and leather weekends that have become fixtures on the Key West calendar. The guest house tends to fill up quickly during these peak periods, and the social atmosphere on the property itself often reflects whichever community event is happening that week. Prospective guests are advised to book well in advance, particularly for Fantasy Fest, Pride, and other themed weeks, as the guest house's limited number of rooms means availability disappears months ahead for popular dates. Given the clothing-optional policy in outdoor areas, guests who are not comfortable with nudity should review the property's guidelines before booking to ensure the environment suits them. The overall atmosphere skews toward relaxed adult socializing rather than high-energy nightlife, making it a good fit for travelers who want easy access to the scene without being in the middle of it at all hours. The guest house format means that common areas are shared and interaction with fellow guests is a natural part of the stay, which most repeat visitors cite as one of its greatest strengths.

I am currently staying here and oh my gosh this place unbelievable. I stay in hotels all over Florida because of my job and this place is just absolutely amazing. Everything from the impeccable decor and detailed aesthetics down to the amazing staff. I can’t even say enough about it. The pool area is just pristine and the guests are all so friendly. And the rooms are adorable. I come to Key West once or twice a year and I will never stay anywhere else.

Had a beautiful stay at Alexander’s Guesthouse. My partner and I booked a one night stay and were pleasantly surprised to be given an upgrade on our room upon check in—free of charge! Our room was very clean, quiet, and comfortable. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. I asked if we could hang out by the pool after checking out, and the staff was extra accommodating. We were both wishing we didn’t have to leave! We had an amazing, relaxing time and will definitely be back!

Staff are the highlight of the property. All were professional and truly nice/friendly. Property is very well cared for; rooms pretty and functional; happy hour and breakfast are basic but good and well run.
