Costa Art Hotel, Laguna Beach

Breakfast was relatively ok, location is very good, free car parking, complementary water in the room and chocolates we liked. Our room was not ready (double queen) on time (3.30 pm) so we waited patiently but when we finally went to leave our stuff there we were shocked - the condition of the room 112 is very far from the photos on Booking. It is very old, there were scratches on the furniture, the bedsheets were so old that we could not believe they had been washed after the previous guests. The shower did not work as it should, there was mold in the corners but the worst thing was the odor, the cleaning staff used so strong chemicals to obviously mask the smell from the pipes that we could not breath there normally. The guy from the reception even chased us with questions about the room and if we liked it, then started apologizing, explaining the they had real issues with their cleaning stuff and saying there were no any other double queen rooms ready (cleaned) for guests...Well, we thought that was ok for just 1 night and did not insist on changing the room immediately. So we left our luggage and went for a walk hoping that when we return the situation would be better....Nope! My eyes got irritated after 30 min. After 3 hours of constant coughing (we opened the door and the window to let the chemicals out) I simply got intoxicated and had difficulties breathing in the room or in front of the room with its door open. At this point my husband went to the reception to ask for another double queen room. What we heard from the reciptionist was an absolute mockery - he started shouting at me and asking why hadn't we told him earlier about the disgusting odor in the room and waited for hours to the extent that I was literally fainting...hello!....he definitely knew what room he gave us just decided to check what was going to happen and see if we were patient enough to spend the night there...never never never stay at this hotel! Believe me, its overall condition has nothing in common with the word "hotel", it is a motel, a very cheap and totally worn-out...though we paid 200+ usd/night.

I'd like to ask about a room with a beach view and if they have beach access. Can someone tell me? I called but they hung up on me when they heard me speak Spanish.

We enjoyed our stay here. The room had 2 king sized beds and was spacious with a nice big bathroom. There is a laundry room on site that you can use with an app. Breakfast was included, it was small but perfect for what we needed. The kids had cereal and we had bagels with egg. The pool heating was broken but we still used the pool and it was fine. Patrick was very welcoming, in comparison the other staff didn’t say anything, no hello, no good morning, even on checking out there was no conversation.

Location is great (walking distance to the beach), rooms are clean and cozy. Staff is very friendly as well. Patrick went out of his way to make us and all the other guests feel welcome. He is incredibly kind and welcoming and you can tell that he loves his job. He is an asset to the company and made our stay even more enjoyable.

I like this hotel because close to the beach and nice location for vacation..person who work in front are friendly and helpful..breakfast are okay not hot breakfast not complimentary breakfast...over all not that bad

Such a charming, beautiful open air inn with warm, welcoming staff who truly make you feel like this is home! There are many thoughtful touches like chocolate chip cookies to welcome you. I definitely recommend this place!

This place was a nightmare! Health hazard and absolutely filthy! The room was disgusting and insect and mold infested. All types of spiders , book lice and creepy looking insects all over the room. Everything was dusty , floors were sticky and furniture was broken and worn out. Despite doing a 9 hour drive and getting in late in the evening , we couldn’t even stay there 30 mins and had to book another hotel last minute. My wife has serious insect allergies and this was a health hazard . We contacted the property for a refund and even provided proof of condition of the room/property. They simply refused to provide a refund, even after the evidence/knowing the state of the property and knowing we couldn’t stay there at all. The worst management I’ve ever come across, it’s shocking - these people really are shameless crooks. They are definitely breaking health codes and should be reported! Such a terrible place. STAY AWAY!

Patrick was amazing! He greeted us and helped take our stuff up stairs to our room. He was very helpful and accommodating. We stayed for a night, but he made our experience shine!

The condition of the hotel was run down to say the least. Our room upon arrival was disappointing. The ambiance of the room was dark with a window into the outside hallway and window into the alley. The window into the alley was stuck open and broken and not operable. We asked to change rooms to a room with functioning windows. The second room was dirty. The floors were sticky, there was dried caulking on the walls in the bathroom, the 2x4's were exposed under the tiny sink. There wasn't a holder for the toilet paper, it was sitting on the back of the toilet bowl. The towels were outside the bathroom which was inconvenient and odd. We spent one night and decided to check out two days early and found a nicer hotel further south of Laguna Beach. We were informed we would be charged anyways as that is their policy. We were also told that the area was very expensive and this was an affordable option. We are not new to the area, so that comment came across condescending. It appears you compromise cleanliness for affordability at this hotel. We were charged the full stay which is unfortunate. We do not recommend this hotel and would never book a room here again.

Room walls are paper thin, can hear everything all around you. The room next door to us was up until 3 A.M. playing loud music and there is no front desk to call at that time. Would not recommend staying here if you are looking for a relaxing stay.

I would give 0 stars if I could. It was Labor Day weekend so the rooms were quite expensive and this was one of the cheapest I could find in the area. This was my worst hotel experience. I didn’t notice the mold at first but after an hour we left to go walking around and I had a massive headache that didn’t go away until the next day. I let the front desk know but he couldn’t move me as they were fully booked. The manager offers a 10% refund and says she will clean the mold and offers us wine. We declined as I know mold would still be in the walls and my headache likely wasn’t gonna go away. I told the manager we had to leave and still she only offers a 10% refund. They need to bring a mold remediation company out to fix this. If not the molds in the walls still.
