The Woods Campground is the heart of gay Lehighton and one of the most established LGBTQIA+ camping resorts in the United States. Opened in 2004 on 161 private acres in the Pocono Mountains foothills, it is a members-only, clothing-optional retreat for adults 18 and over, and on its busiest summer weekends it draws roughly 2,000 queer visitors to the grounds.
The resort is built for both relaxing and partying: a large pool with pool parties, a four-acre lake with paddleboats, a fitness center, hiking trails, a cafe, and an on-site dance club that anchors the nightlife. The season runs from May through October and is organized around a packed calendar of theme weekends, including Pride, bear and leather gatherings, drag shows, country weekends, and Halloween-season events. Accommodation ranges from cabins and park-model tiny homes to RV sites (big-rig friendly, most with 50-amp service) and tent camping.
Access is by membership; the resort offers full-season memberships and shorter temporary memberships, and daily passes are available for guests staying nearby. For LGBTQ+ travellers, The Woods is the reason Lehighton appears on the map at all: there is no separate downtown gay bar, so the campground effectively is the local scene.
