About This Event

New Orleans Pride takes over the city every June. It's as wild and soulful as New Orleans itself. The festival came back in 2007, after Hurricane Katrina, but the city's queer history goes way back to the 1950s, when the French Quarter was one of the first gay neighborhoods in America. Today, Pride mixes New Orleans jazz, drag, and Mardi Gras into one weekend that remembers both the hard times and the good ones.

The Pride Parade rolls through the French Quarter. Expect floats, brass bands, and beads flying everywhere. There are stages with live music—bounce, drag, jazz, pop—plus block parties on Bourbon Street. You'll find drag shows at Oz and the Bourbon Pub, and the Mister and Miss New Orleans Pride pageants. Sunday brings tea dances and those Southern Decadence-style pool parties that happen all over town.

The French Quarter is where most of the action is. Think wrought-iron balconies, courtyard bars, and 24-hour noise. The old gay bars on Bourbon Street and St. Ann—people call it the "Lavender Line"—are where nightlife happens. The Marigny and Bywater neighborhoods have a different vibe: hipper, queerer, with live music and creole cottages.

Travel tips: Louis Armstrong International Airport connects to downtown on the E-2 bus or by rideshare. Stay in the French Quarter, Marigny, or CBD if you want to walk to events. June is hot and humid. Drink a lot of water, wear light clothes, and go with the slower Southern rhythm. Book hotels early. Pride falls during peak festival season.

If you're queer, New Orleans Pride is a big deal. Nowhere else blends queer celebration with so much history. From beignets at dawn to drag at midnight, every minute feels distinctly New Orleans. It’s a Pride that feels like coming home, where Southern hospitality meets fierce queer identity in a city that has always made space for the fabulous, the freaky, and the free.
