The New Yorker Hotel

We stayed at The New Yorker Hotel for two nights. While the location is absolutely fantastic for getting around NYC, the actual room experience left a lot to be desired. If you are looking for a comfortable place to relax, you might want to consider other options. The good is an unbeatable location. If your primary goal is convenience, this hotel delivers. It serves as a great, central base camp for exploring the city, with easy access to transit and major attractions. The bad, cramped space & missing amenities. The room itself was incredibly disappointing when it came to size and basic features: Zero Elbow Room: The rooms are exceptionally small. After we put our luggage down, we barely had enough room to move around. It felt tight and restrictive. There is no mini-fridge in the room, which makes it impossible to keep drinks cold or store quick snacks. The bathroom layout and plumbing caused a lot of frustration during our stay. The water pressure in the sink was intensely hard, but because the sink didn’t drain properly, the water backed up instantly. It resulted in water splashing everywhere, turning the bathroom into a total mess. The Verdict: If you only care about a good location and literally just need a bed to sleep in, this place is fine. But if you value room comfort, functional plumbing, and space to breathe, keep looking.

Stayed here after 36 hour journey from Australia. Staff were amazing from the off, gave me a complimentary upgrade which was a great touch. Rooms were great. Amazing price for the location. Can't miss with this one.

Very disappointing experience. This hotel is extremely expensive for what it offers, and I would not recommend it. The service at the front desk was horrible. Staff were often passive-aggressive and communication was very difficult. The hotel itself was not well maintained. The windows appeared never to be cleaned, and the room was dusty and dirty. It was also very noisy — I could hear traffic from the street as well as conversations and noise from neighboring rooms. Security staff check your hotel key card every time you want to access the elevator. While I understand the need for security, constantly being stopped and asked to show the card felt intrusive and uncomfortable. Another frustrating policy is luggage storage. If you need to leave your bags after checkout, they charge $5 per bag regardless of size. Never seen it before in any 4 stars hotel. Any questions about this policy were met with the same response: "You have to pay." At times, it felt like some staff members had limited English proficiency, although it was also possible they simply did not want to engage in a conversation. Either way, customer service was poor and unhelpful. This hotel does not deserve its 4-star rating. It is not worth the money, and the rude service can easily ruin your stay.

I cancelled my booking WELL within the allotted window, and they charged me regardless. They refused to talk to me on the phone and will not refund me the very significant amount of money. Do not ever stay here.

Old hotel remodeled many times over, and the rooms are small but clean and perfect location to Madison Square Garden.

Firstly, Afroza at the front desk made our trip unforgettable. She knew it was our first family holiday, so she found a room at a reasonable upgrade cost that overlooked empire state and MSG. She was awesome and even checked in on us personally that we were ok and happy. 👏👏👏 First and only place we will stay at in NYC. The staff, location, and value were the best we could ask for. Well done to the entire New Yorker team for making our stay amazing!

I’m staying at the New Yorker Hotel, and honestly I find the experience a bit strange. It feels like some staff members are suspicious of me whenever they see me. One of the security guards stopped me and asked what I was doing in the hotel, while a white guest walked in without being asked for any identification. I understand hotels have security policies, but the way they are being applied doesn’t seem consistent.

Overall, I dig this hotel.I'm not a fan of the bayton switch.When it comes to hotels, fees and trying to upsell us on rooms that we don't need.Otherwise, the location was super awesome.The rooms were clean.It was a cool place to stay

The only thing good I can say was the bed (only a queen) was comfortable. for the price I thought I was getting something nice. Let’s go down a list of what I feel. The issues are. The lobby area is nice and spacious the minute you get off the elevator the walls the floor are filthy. It’s dimly lit and the doors have probably not been painted since the 50s and once you get into the room truly my closet at home is larger than this room. Only one side of the bed has an electrical outlet. The bathroom is so small there’s not even a shelf on the wall so my shaving equipment, toothbrush, toothpaste, etc., are out on the TV stand the only flat surface in the room outside of the two nightstands the View of the one unobstructed window is directly across probably a 40 foot courtyard into the rooms across from you so you have to have your shades pulled at all times the other window is fully obstructed by the bedframe. You have to stand on the mattress to look out the window the bathtub and shower are from the original 1929 construction and the knobs are very difficult to turn and if you’re not careful, you can scold yourself with the water. I’ve pulled the sheets back I’ve looked. I did not see any vermin, but with the condition of the room I can’t help but lay here and feel itchy. Again for the same price I could’ve stayed at one of the Marriott or Hilton properties, but I stay at them all the time and I thought I would give this a shot. It’s one and done for me. Also notice how the toilet is very loaded the ground and it’s at some weird angle towards the wall and I hate to be graphic here, but you have to sit side saddle on the toilet. And last but not least the Wi-Fi is terrible. I had great difficulty working here and could not take a teams meeting.
