About this place GLID 2016 Annual Awards Dinner

The Gay & Lesbian Independent Democrats (GLID) is New York City’s first gay and lesbian Democratic club, founded in 1972.

GLID’s Annual Awards Dinner isn't some club night. It’s an old-school New York political dinner, the kind of gathering where community leaders, activists, and allies actually show up. Think political engagement, not bottle service.

You can expect a room full of people celebrating LGBTQ+ achievements and talking about strengthening political participation within the Democratic Party. It’s a glimpse into the city’s political machinery, and a reminder that some of the most important LGBTQ+ spaces are about organizing, not just going out.

The dinner takes place in Manhattan’s West Village, a neighborhood that needs no introduction for anyone interested in LGBTQ+ culture. If you’re into political history, or just want to see how New York gets things done, this is it. Find out more at glidny.org.

I first had meetings here in what had been the actual showers, hoping that the pipes didn't burst, or leak. I was here for the Rainbow Book Fair, which took center attention.
