Cafe Nunez is a gay-friendly Latino restaurant in Hell's Kitchen, where the food is better than its Midtown location suggests. Chef Rene Hernandez trained at El Bulli, and he’s doing interesting things here for a surprisingly low price.
The city's gay dining scene runs the gamut, from quick neighborhood joints to serious fine dining. This one falls somewhere in the middle: a place you can relax but still get a thoughtful meal and a well-made drink. The chef clearly cares about both sides of the menu.
It’s open every day for lunch and dinner, so you can pop in for a quick bite during the week or make it a weekend outing. You’ll find it at 240 W 35th St. Check cafenunez.com for hours and reservations.

The service was exceptional from the moment we arrived. Your restaurant was recommended by my brother and his friends, and we thank them tremendously. The food was a 20/20, the service 20/20, the great conversations and laughter with the staff have us planning our next trip there. Thank you to all the employees that we encountered on 06/082026 at 6pm.
