About this place Broadside Bookshop

Broadside Bookshop, located in the Thornes Marketplace building that is itself one of downtown Northampton's most important commercial institutions, represents the literary culture that is inseparable from Northampton's identity as a college town and LGBTQ+ destination. The bookshop has been operating in Northampton for years and has built a stock and a community following that reflects the particular interests of a town with Smith College, Hampshire College, and UMass Amherst within its immediate orbit. The LGBTQ+ section is strong by the standards of any independent bookshop; the staff are knowledgeable and the author events programme has brought queer writers of national profile to Northampton for readings and signings. The bookshop is the kind of community institution that sustains itself through genuine local loyalty rather than tourist traffic alone — the regulars who buy their books here, attend events, and recommend it to visiting friends are the foundation of its survival. For visitors to Northampton, a visit to Broadside is as representative of the city's character as a night at Diva's or an afternoon on Main Street.

Cute local bookstore with a wide variety of books. Also really cute knick knacks and merch. It’s a great place to find quirky gifts for loved ones.

Cute bookshop had some interesting finds but didn't have allot of an educational section. Everything is kind of tightly together it's hard to walk around and feels claustrophobic but overall it was a cute shop and the cashier was nice.

This is an interesting find. They had a lot good books for sale. There were many cool magnets available too. The staff here were very friendly and professional. Unfortunately the interior of the building is not best suited for a guy of my size to move around without bothering others. There is plenty of street parking available outside. We are looking forward to going back again soon!

Well, it's a great book store. It's not the most welcoming of places for a conservative voter but it's still got a good selection.
