William Way LGBT Community Center

The William Way LGBT Community Center has been serving Philadelphia's LGBTQ+ community since 1974, making it one of the oldest continuously operating gay community centers in the United States. Located on Spruce Street in the heart of the Gayborhood, the Center provides a comprehensive range of services: counselling and mental health support, HIV/AIDS services, senior programmes, youth programming, immigration assistance, and a cultural programme that includes art exhibitions, film screenings, and community events. The Center's John J. Wilcox Jr. Archives hold one of the most significant collections of LGBTQ+ historical materials in the country — photographs, periodicals, organizational records, and personal papers documenting Philadelphia's gay community from the 1950s to the present. The archives are open to researchers and the public.
