About this place Woody's

Woody's opened in 1982 and has been the undisputed institution of Philadelphia's gay scene for over four decades. The bar occupies multiple levels on South 13th Street, with each floor serving a distinct function and atmosphere: a street-level bar for conversation and casual drinking, a dance floor that runs pop and dance music into the early hours, and upper-level spaces that have hosted everything from drag shows to community fundraisers in their long history. The longevity of Woody's is inseparable from its role as a community institution: this is the bar that was here when the Gayborhood was being established, that weathered the AIDS crisis, that hosted the celebrations when marriage equality passed, and that has been the consistent physical anchor of 13th Street through the full arc of recent American LGBTQ+ history. The crowd at Woody's is mixed across ages and types in a way that reflects its status as the neighbourhood's default gathering point — young people experiencing the Gayborhood for the first time alongside regulars who have been coming since the 1990s. The Thursday nights are among the most popular in the Gayborhood. For visitors to Philadelphia who want a single bar that captures the full sweep of the city's gay scene, Woody's is the non-negotiable starting point.

The security staff was very rude. They yelled at my partner and me on several occasions for no reason. The atmosphere was okay. And the drinks were good.

Woodys is slowly turning into a straight club I don’t know whose gay or whose not anymore we can’t have a club with just gays

Bartenders keep pricing my same drink differently. I’m genuinely so serious when I say this, I feel discriminated because of that

Happy hour downstairs was great. Friendly service, good prices drinks and food. The dance floor upstairs is another story. It’s giving weird straight club vibes. They charge TEN DOLLARS for a can of Miller Lite. Hard pass

I’ve been to Woody’s a few times over the years and my favorite time to attend is for Philadelphia Black Gay Pride. However, if I’m in town visiting randomly I love to go on a Friday or Saturday night. It’s a lot of fun, it’s multi clubs within this large space, different music styles and multiple bars to get drinks. I never ate food from there and didn’t even know they served food to be honest, but I spend all my money on drinks. I think the venue is affordable and safe with plenty of security which is a major plus! Love a safe space to be who you are for your pride.

Woody’s is honestly one of the most iconic gay bars/clubs in Philly and definitely a staple in the LGBTQ+ nightlife scene. The vibe is always fun, energetic, and welcoming whether you’re going with friends, celebrating something, or just looking for a good night out. One thing I really like about Woody’s is that it has different sections and music depending on the night. You can dance, hang out at the bar, or just move around and meet people. The music is usually a mix of pop hits, throwbacks, dance music, and some hip-hop depending on the DJ and event. The crowd is usually really diverse too, which makes it feel comfortable for a lot of different people. The drinks are pretty standard club/bar prices for Center City Philly, not cheap but not ridiculously overpriced either. The bartenders and staff have always been nice in my experience, and overall it’s just a really fun atmosphere. Like any busy nightlife spot, just stay aware of your belongings and surroundings, especially on packed weekends. But overall, Woody’s is definitely a great spot if you want a fun night out, especially if you’re new to Philly or want to experience one of the city’s most well-known LGBTQ+ clubs. They also just remodeled their whole entire upper floor

Went here for my birthday just because and had a ball! The bartender with the fro was phenomenal! He was chill but also fun, warned us when some guys were getting weird and made sure we were good. Not to the dj, I’m not sure if it’s multiple djs or just one but the one this night was good and bad lol he would have us going in the first half then lose us right as it gets good 😂 overall I had a good night with good people
