About this place Race Point Beach

Race Point Beach sits on the wild Atlantic side of the Cape Cod National Seashore, a broad, dune-backed stretch that is quieter and more remote than Herring Cove. It draws a gay following for isolated sunbathing away from the crowds — walk far enough along the sand and clothing-optional pockets appear, though nudity is technically not permitted on Seashore land and rangers do patrol. Big surf, seals and spectacular sunsets make it worth the trip out on Race Point Road.

Race Point Beach, Race Point Beach, is one of the most spectacular beaches within the Cape Cod National Seashore. Located at the northern tip of Cape Cod, it is known for its expansive sandy shoreline, rolling dunes, powerful Atlantic surf, and panoramic views. The beach is a favorite destination for nature lovers, photographers, anglers, and birdwatchers. In spring, migrating whales are often visible from shore, while the historic Race Point Lighthouse and Old Harbor Life-Saving Station add to the area's rich maritime heritage. Race Point is renowned as one of New England's premier birding locations. Spring (March–May) brings migrating loons, grebes, sea ducks, shorebirds, terns, and songbirds. Summer (June–August) features nesting Piping Plovers, Least Terns, and abundant gulls, with offshore shearwaters and other seabirds. Autumn (September–November) is the peak migration season, offering excellent opportunities to observe Northern Gannets, jaegers, alcids, scoters, loons, and thousands of passing seabirds. Winter (December–February) attracts Common and King Eiders, Long-tailed Ducks, scoters, Purple Sandpipers, Snow Buntings, and occasional rare Arctic visitors. The beach provides outstanding birding throughout the year. Perhaps Race Point's most celebrated feature is its sunsets. Because the shoreline curves toward the northwest, it is one of the few Atlantic-facing beaches on the U.S. East Coast where the sun sets directly over the water. As evening approaches, the sky often glows with brilliant shades of gold, orange, pink, and crimson, silhouetting the dunes and Race Point Lighthouse. These unforgettable sunsets, combined with the calls of seabirds and the sound of crashing surf, make Race Point Beach one of Cape Cod's most memorable natural destinations.

This beach is one of the most amazing places in the world. I spent my childhood summers here, and the other night I saw at least 100 seals. The saddest part was that one got pulled under (possibly by a shark) and then floated by us...
