It definitely wasn't the worst place I've went to, but it definitely was overcrowded and loud. I had went on Sunday which was karaoke night along with it being the 2nd day of the Utah Pride festival, so it definitely could've been extra crowded because of that. Drink wise I got a shot of some alcohol for 7$ so I think that's good? I'm not well versed on this though but hopefully someone finds this helpful! My main complaint/concern is the DJ for karaoke that night. They left super early because apparently they got stressed, but the people who helped out had said that it was normal for them? It's kinda unprofessional but I'm more concerned over if they're okay. So I hope they are! I will admit though that their way of dealing with turn order on karaoke was kinda lame but I appreciate they were open about it. I know tip based jobs aren't the greatest, but it feels disappointing when you've been waiting for your turn to sing for a while, only to see that a person who just barely entered the bar is able to sing right away simply because they had the money/want to tip. In case anyone is unsure too, if you only have a temporary driver's permit as your main id before you get your actual license you won't be able to enter. I had to find my old expired state id for the the bouncer to compare with my permit because the barcode on the latter wouldn't scan as he told me. Kinda sucks but it's understandable! I've heard mixed reviews about this bar, so I hope it can get better rather than worse for sure.
This was a few years ago but I deleted my review since then so I'm re-writing it. My first and second time coming here was nice, atmosphere was great. But when I came here for a third time on a random afternoon in 2023 with my boyfriend after a long ride, we wanted to a nice time but the old man at the entrance misgendered me after taking a look at my ID, said my ID wasn't valid and denied entry. We ended up going back home. Anyways I haven't gone since lmao
Had a good time. Super packed
Here’s a polished version that still sounds personal and honest: The Sun Trapp still has its charm. Being one of the oldest gay bars in the West, it has that classic neighborhood feel that’s hard to replace. Honestly, one of the best ways to enjoy it is to go earlier, around 7 p.m., when it’s quieter. The bartenders are attentive, come check on you, and you can settle into your spot while watching the crowd slowly roll in for the night. Service has always been great in my experience. I’ve also noticed some nice renovations recently, especially in the bathrooms. My only real complaint is that the DJs could definitely be better.
