The Gunter Hotel San Antonio Riverwalk

The hotel is very nice and very pet friendly. The staff is incredibly welcoming. We called the front desk hours before making the reservation and Alejandro answered all of our questions. Once we arrived, he was very kind and welcoming, as was his colleague in the front desk. David from security is also amazing, he helped us recover a lost AirPod!!! :)

Favorite place to stay in downtown San Antonio. The staff is so accommodating and helpful. Hotel itself is beautiful and the rooms are kept in great shape while not losing the history.

Clean and very nice customer service

Our stay at the Gunter Hotel was absolutely miserable. Not only did I pre-book at $484.98 online via BonVoy App. For a GRANDE KING ROOM with King Bed, and was visually advised we were able to utilize Government ID. We BOTH checked in using Government I.D., which we displayed upon Check-in. We were verbally told "We see that you are a Law Enforcement Officer, BUT unless you are active military with government orders to show us, we CAN'T give you a discount or use your ID's as a Government Rate." Therefore, we were charged THREE TIMES the original rate, which then equalled $1,249.46. Then we were given room 913 which had two Queen beds instead of a King bed we booked. The Air Conditioning did NOT work, the bathroom outlet did not work, we had NO microwave, no Lobby Coffee, No Continental Breakfast gratis, No included parking, so we paid $10 across the street at Mary's Street Parking. Out of the over thirty years that I have been a LOYAL Marriott guest, this stay was the absolute WORST I have ever experienced. Not only am I an Army Veteran , and Chris Lomberk - my partner- is an Navy Veteran, but I have been a law enforcement officer for TWENTY YEARS. So if you are Law Enforcement, STAY AWAY as they won’t respect you or take your Government ID.

Wonderful hotel with lots of history. All of the employees that we came into contact with were very friendly and helpful. Lobby bar and restaurant both provided excellent food and service. Highly recommend.

Don’t let the overall 4 star review fool you. The Gunter went through a major renovation in 2025 and should be closer to a 5 star. The mid century design and the record players are giving this place a unique vibe. You can tell they are proud of the hotel history. You will find a small museum in the basement and a really cool barbershop. The rooms are on the smaller side but clean and comfortable. This is a beautiful historical building near the River Walk that was renovated with a lot of taste. My go to when staying in town.

Amazing stay so far, still have 3 days to go! The room is amazing! Love that there is a record player in the room and you can "rent" records. I love the new renovations to the rooms. Staff have been great! Bed is super comfortable!
